I want to demo some boards between gold coast and byron.
I most want to demo the LF recoil comp. I'm 6', 80kg. been kiting about a year and a half. Im after a board that handles chop, is good up wind, good pop, early planning and is light. I also want it to be shorter than my previous board (140) but how much shorter im not sure of until i try. I was thinking free ride style boards but really like the look of the recoil comp even though it seems to target wake style a little more than free ride. I'm always riding at beaches but not worried too much about riding waves with it. got a surfboard for that.
Also it would be great if someone knew the diff between free ride and free style boards. I though that kites were referred to as free ride and boards called free style but that doesn't seem to be the case...
thanks. Greg
Just ask any of the shops dude, recoil comp, cabrinha caliber, underground flx will all be nice for freeriding around se qld so just show up at a shoP, have a chat and we will throw you a board for the day :)
Check out the cardboards range - much better value than any punched out production board on the market.
Try the tempo 135x41 which should suit you perfectly.
I have all models to try but am in Brisbane but will be down the coast maybe on Saturday if it looks good.
cheers
Kurt
Cheers. kusu, pm'd you my number in case you are down this way. Rhys.. they are pretty much the exact boards i wanted to demo but two closest shop i been to didn't have them. which shops around here can i demo these from? thanks.
We have the full range 09 LF boards for demo. Come up to Brissy for a day! We just had a guy from Canberra here Monday to Wednesday doing lessons, a guy just flew in from Adelaide this morning, demo-ed the 09 kites and bought 2 right away, and 2 guys arrived on a different flight from Sydney came in to buy package and got free lessons.
The recoil comp is my all time favourite. It has even thinner rails than last year's, really nice feel. We have all sizes in stock you can try. The 134 is my personal favourite size with the 137 as my light wind machine.
All our 2008 boards including the Recoil Comps are on clearance. Best time to buy now!
If you havent got car, we are just a short walk from Sandgate station direct from City Central. Give us a call and we'll pick you up from the station if needed!
thanks surf connect. I'll give yous a call tomorrow.
Kurt, any reason you think i'd like the tempo better than the free ride?
All the cardboards are nice in the chop/flat... You may as well get the performance from a tempo because it will handle it just as well as the freeride.
All the new boards with the quad concaves in the bottom - Cabrinha Calibre, Underground FLX and the Cardboards Tempo will blow you away if you've never ridden one before - anything else with an unshaped bottom will bounce all over the place at the sight of chop...
Make sure you ride a few boards, because you cant choose your favorite board if you've only ridden one brand...
When you planning on buying? Im up for a trip down the coast in 3 weeks time and could bring them down for you???
Rhys. that could be cool as i'm looking to buy within the next 4 weeks. My last board was actually a pretty full on wakestlye board (07 LF 140 Element). It was an awesome board but i want to change for a while to something a little more free ride. loved the element but sometimes i've been able to ride all day long for a couple of days in a row (like 7 out of last 9 days!!!) and by the end of the day I'm desperate for something that's lighter in the air with a low swing weight and powers up wind when wind is minimal. Element is no good at these times especially trying to cruise up wind when under powered, it gets there but takes a lot of effort. pm'd you my number for when you're down this way. thanks for the help.
I see briskites has nobile boards too. what are peoples thoughts on the 666 and new version nobile nhp? I read the old 666 review on here. wouldn't mind giving one a try. they definitely look awesome.
the LF comp is a really nice board to ride, gets up and riding quick, fast across the water, smooth, nice pop etc.. its more directed at freestyle before we continue not wakestyle, thats the concept.
i rode hte 134 comp in moderate to heavy chop for quite a while and had no problems with it, youl really enjoy it.. only problem though is that alot of them tend to crease near the fins in the 08 models.. unsure of 09
the concept although wake orientated is really nice in straps and boots, i found it a joy to ride, SUPER smooth through chop and that spine on the tails really helped it bite in for a nice solid feel in the water. I would not look past that if you looking at LF boards.
the 666 i also rate highly, i rode one at kitestock when i was really lit up, i found it very smooth and forgiving with a SOLID edge and decent pop.
if i were you id go up to brissie fo a day and just cruise through and try as much as possible.
Thanks for the help guys. went to brissy for sat and sunday to wittness 2 full days of drizzle and mostly dead calm.
. So not a single board tried. got to catch up with some mates at least. Thanks to Padi for waiting around at sandgate just in case it came in. So far i can review the Recoil comp in 1 knot winds... It looks cool but requires a flying kite to assist in propelling you across the water.
