hi every one i just wanted some advise before i buy a kite from the buy and sell section off sea breeze ?
few concerns i have obviously your just trusting the person if they say its never been repaired and whats to say once you deposit the money in there account that they'll even send it out ????
i would preferably like to find one locally and have a look and hand over the money in person like you would if you bought something from gumtree.
are there any safeguards reporting or making a complaint if your not happy with your purchase like ebay???
any feed back would be appreciated ive found a really nice kite but would like to put my mind at ease before i deposit the cash

Lee, if you can’t get somebody to eyeball the gear I would have a look at their Seabreeze profile and check out how long they’ve been a member, their posts and their other sells. If these options aren’t available well your next best resource is your own gut feeling.
What I mean by that is, ring them… always ring them and make conversation about the gear their selling and whatever else you might have in common with kitesurfing… why, because in my experience most people that are bull***tting will trip up or simply not sound genuine. If you feel like you’re being told a load of crap well you probably are.
By no way are you trying to interrogate the seller or being dishonest in your own motives you are only trying to not get caught out and lose your money by somebody that is probably a good guy but you don’t know that. If I can strike up a genuine 2 way conversation and I get the feeling I could have a beer with the other person I would do the deal.
Australia Post COD is always a freight option.

I have bought a few things from the buy and sell over the years ... Never had a problem....but as windreams suggested check the persons profile etc....
If they signed up last week and are now listing items perhaps be somewhat cautious
I've been happy with the gear that I've bought off Seabreeze for myself. However, I got a kite for my kid a few months ago. Put it in the air today and it played up with some serious hindenburgs. It was cheap and I got what I paid for... any second hand purchase is buyer beware.
The most recent stuff I've bought for myself came from recognized kite shops (still on Seabreeze). Been happy with this and felt that they were upfront and honest.

Hi, I have sold kites, SUPS etc on here and everyone has been happy even have repeat buyers. I update gear every year and often some gear has had very little use subject to weather and surf conditions. This year my kites are as new due to a dud year.

If you can do COD do paypal. That way if it's crap you can at least dispute it there and get your money back. Odds are the seller will ask for an extra 5 bucks or so to cover the fees but I think it's well worth it when buying second hand without seeing it.
Otherwise I've bought all my kites off here and the only dramas I've had with them is from me introducing them to trees :p

If you are looking at peace of mind, a good option is to visit your local kite shop and to chew the fat and check out the range and make your choice based on their input, your preference and how much Moolah you are prepared to drop.
Seabreeze classifies are a good tool but it is always buyer beware. Especially for noobs.
People want to move last years get on so they can buy this years gear. If you get the right person then you will get a good deal. If you get the wrong one them you will get more drama than 'The Batchelor'.
Point us to what your looking at and a few of us can post what we think of your choice.

Windreams is on the money with his advice. I've never had any grief with buying off seabreeze (even made a friend through it).
If gear condition is of concern, you could also do a video call to the seller and talk them through showing you the condition of the kite (this is less useful if you are unsure of what you should be looking for).

I have purchased second hand gear through the Seabreeze Buy and Sell section and been very happy with my purchases. Some absolute bargains available.
The way I see it is that all the same rules apply weather your buying a used car, house or kite. Do your research, ask questions, use your instinct, don't rush in and seek help from people who know more than yourself.

Oz post cash on delivery does NOT allow you to open the box before paying. So it's useless really.
Ask for 100 points of id before sending money off. If they refuse, not the sort of character you should be sending money to anyway.

You should be right most of the time, but there is always a risk buying something from someone in another state, especially as a private seller. If you're worried, buy from one of the many retailers online, they have heaps of stuff for sale, both used, superceded etc and have a reputation to uphold.

Not your shop dm, a local bought a 8m c4 from a large interstate shop, as a ex demo/ shop riders kite, was in pretty dire all round condition, the kite basically fell apart over 12 sessions, with multiple major repairs, left a bad taste of the brand not the shop though, I've seen some good condition charts on used kite retailers in the uk giving the kites condition in multiple areas, but comes down to the shops honesty, goes a bit like this

A few shops have adopted this in used kite sails with a description , kite thrills have a good system IMO with video footage and description of kite. Plenty of cracking deals around from shops and private you've just got to be up front about it either with shop or seller , tell them to email you that a full refund will be given if not as described, I've always had good results when buying , bought a 9 and 11 edge which the seller advertised ridiculously cheap he even sent them to me without payment, turns out he was desperate for money as his house got flooded in the qld floods, ended up giving him an extra. $200 as I felt sorry for him, propably a sales stunt

The is generally a brief description with the ratings plus photos, especially repairs if relevant, shops should always be honest though as you'd never use them again if you felt hard done to,

i have bought all my kit (bar one which i got brand new) from seabreeze, a total of 6 kites and 3 boards. I have only been stung once, when a kite i bought was in terrible condition but was advertised as being in good condition. This however was my fault for not thoroughly checking the kite out (or getting enough pictures sent).
So my only advice would be to look at it yourself, if its on the other side of the country, try get a friend or fellow seabreezer to look at it for you, failing all of that get the seller to send a pic of every single damn inch of the thing, hahaha. any legitimate honest seller will have no problem sending you a load of pics.

Shop owners love it when you chew the fat, check out their entire range, get great advice.. And then go and spend your money on seabreeze.
Of course any good kiteshop would be happy to help you out. Just remember to be considerate.
Only excellent experiences for me buying quite a few items off the Seabreeze Buy and Sell section over the past 10 years. Highly recommended.
had 1 suspect kite , and did a 50% deposit . When it arrived I wasn't happy and offered less or a return .

Don't buy kites that are older than a few years.
If you can find someone that upgrades every year, like a lot of experienced kiters do, then you can pick up kites every year from same guy, and they don't even make Seabreeze.
Warrick is perfect example of this...
Go check out your local shop, new kites are starting to roll in and people are upgrading.
I have had mixed results on seabreeze.
Bought a kite for my misses, that seller said was brand new ( used for 10 hours / no repairs etc ) ........ Anyways, kite arrived and looked ok but when taken on maiden flight LE ripped and bladder blew up. but what can you do about it? Couldnt inspect kite pre-purchase because it was interstate , so buyer beware. My lesson from that is " never buy interstate unless I know the seller personally or it's a reputable retail store that can offer some sort of warranty"........ Further more , upon contacting the seller to complain about kite, he then admitted that it was purchased from a school , and he had only used it for 10 hours. I guess it's a buyer beware sorta thing. People will say whatever they have to say to sell their gear. ( if it's any coincidence, the guy was a WA cop , so I guess I shouldn't have trusted him in the first place )
I have also had problems with shipping companies. Just recently I sold a board and TNT sent the board interstate, and then returned ime back to me instead of the recipient. You can only imagine how that poor guy felt. Totally out of my control, but makes me look like a shifty scammer. ( apologies again Mr Kent )
I would like to say that most people are honest. But it's just not the truth. People don't tell you they are about to scam you for a couple of hundred bucks, do they?
IMO , - always try to buy local.
If not,
- always talk via phone . Not txt or email.
- always get full details ( full name , age, address, work & home & mobile numbers)
- always ask for close up photos
- always run at the first smell of shiftiness
- and if it's too good to be true, then it probably is.
I have had some good buyers and sellers, so don't be discouraged, just be careful
