Hey guys I arrived into perth a week ago for work, I've been kitesurfing for a couple of year in England, I bought all my kites and boards over with me which include a 12m 9m 7m North evo

I'm unsure about the waters and winds here in Perth, was going to ask some info from you guys and girls that cruise these waters all the time.
I live near leederville and want to know:-

Usual wind direction for WA
Best locations to launch
When best not to go out
What time of year is not good
Shark awareness
Winder finder apps??

Thanks would appreciate the advice, also looking to meet new people so here is my number if anyone wants to take me under there wing

Here's a good start, have a good read through. You will get mostly storm fronts kiting in August and September around Perth which can be challenging and dangerous especially if you're not experienced with this. Sea breeze starts kicking in in October which delivers much cleaner and predictable conditons. Beaches will get nicer and wider throughout the summer as well.

Hi Chriskiter1,

We are a shop based less than 10 minutes North of you in Balcatta, you are welcome to drop in and say G'Day and we can help you out with whatever info you are after.

To cover some of your answers briefly in the mean time, here ya go:-

Usual wind direction for Perth is SW between October and April. Offshore in the morning and seabreeze kicks around mid day (usually). At this time of year it is mostly offshores (E) or no wind at all. We should start getting storms which can be NW, W or SW from now until early October. They are a little late this year as evidenced by the amount of sand NOT washed away from the beaches this winter so far.

Best Locations to Launch is Leighton to North Mullaloo along the coast if you are looking for surf conditions with exception of Leighton which is mostly choppy once you are just out past the small shorey, South end of Sorrento Beach (Check WAKSA for finite detail as restrictions apply around this beach), Pinnaroo Point (Choppy Water). There is also Woodmans Point for smooth water or Safety Bay further South which has small chop to flat smooth water.
For River kiting, best to go to Applecross (Melville Waters) for SW winds or Point Walter for E-NE winds in the mornings. You can also kite Pelican POint but pretty sketchy spot with more hazards than you can poke a stick at. Not recommended for beginners!

Best not to go out in Squally/Stormy onshores along the coast between August and October as people have been killed along this stretch of coast in these crazy conditions. Expert only! Otherwise, anytime you don't feel quite right about the conditions, this is your unconscious telling you there is something wrong, listen to that inner voice.

Time of year not good is now, no wind or flukey tantalizing SW winds which can instantly shut down or swing offshore. Just wait a little longer for more dependable winds.

Shark awareness? Yes, the sharks are completely aware of you, no need to introduce yourself. Do not soak your wetsuit in Tuna blood and tie dead chickens around your waist when body dragging at sunset looking for your board. That aside, you should be OK.

Seabreeze has an app, and there is Wind Guru and also Perth Winds and Wind Finder.

Welcome to one of the best places on the planet for kiting.

Haaa yeah - also in the summer, if you think theres a rescue helicopter above you waving because of your awesome skillz...
Sorry but there trying to tell you one them bitey critters is underneath you

Also for Easterlies at point Walter - get up early, between 7-930am is the best wind and drops off fairly quick.

There's a little patch of razor sharp rocks, ask a few people where it is, other than that - it's sand.
This weekend forecast is around 25 knots sat.
Could mean squalls to 50
Or dead flat and 5 knots...
Winter weather is unpredictable and valid normally when your at the beach in front of you
