Big news today! Youri decided to move to slingshot and Lewis crathern to North. I think slingshot was a good choice for youri, they suit his style and he was insane on them in his former days with slingshot in 2012. If your around Perth you might see him around but he will be off to KOTA in the next few days. As for Lewis, he has chosen North, he is going to be on the rebel and Vegas in the hopes of breaking 25m. Should be good to see both of these riders in the KOTA with their new sponsors. As for Ruben, still no news although I believe there is a slight chance he might make his own Len10 brand as this was his ultimate goal.
Sooo, not looking good then for Best, after loosing 4 of their major riders so far...

They didn't loose their riders.

It was an economical decision from Management to let them go.

In order to strip back expenditure and save the company.

That's right. Youri and gisela contracts ended last year and they weren't renewed. I hope the brand pulls through. Good news they sorted out the bladders and not using the stupid light not stick bladder now.

Thats completely not true.

Best haven't been paying their riders all throughout 2015. Who knows why (maybe their plan to buy all the riders then expect sales didn't turn out )

Even if they wanted to, no rider would stand by a brand who won't deliver what they promise. They have already lost Noe, Ruben, Youri, Alex, Lewis and Gisela, hopefully the few who choose to stick around can help turn the brand around and make it work for them as it would be sad to see them get screwed over for sticking by Best.

Noe definitely was a sad loss to the brand, that kid can shred. Hannah and Sam would be there only big name left now.

No disrespect Ewan, but just what part of what I said isn't true?

The company is performing poorly financially, its Management have ended/not renewed the contracts of numerous riders limiting expenditure.

Edit: if they were not paying their riders under legally binding contracts, perhaps there was a cash flow issue.

Let this be a lesson for all sponsored riders.

If you "brand" stops paying you. You don't have to legally hang around.

Sad and true.

World tour is owned/ run by the exact same person... I see a pattern emerging.

I hope people/ riders have learnt something from this situation.

yea that sucks, Noe is a shredder for sure, but I'm sure he will get the support he deserves now on North!

Pretty sure his focus isn't on whatever kind of grim 'world tour' there is at the moment haha. He's killing it too much to go on there anyway, they wouldn't reward his style of riding on VKWC

everyone seems to be pushing this death of freestyle stuff im constantly getting hit by all these "so glad i started wave rideing" posts on facebook from every young freestyle hopefull ive met along the way. its only been happening for last 6 months or so aswell but definitely seems to be a bit of a movement even with progression bringing out theyre wave riding lectures or other high end instructor camps like christian and karin tauting wave rideing etc etc

honestly i see freestyle the same as i see it in all other sports freestyle motocross or acro flying etc etc it will stay and it will allways be around and i honestly believe there will allways be a tour of some sorts. the kite manufacturing companys will be forced to bail out any failed tours if any do decide to completely disolve or make there very own one.

if i was to have a guess at what the future holds id say the wake parks will become much more like street skate courses and well see a more popularisation of wakeskateing on a kite. kooks mow the lawn and get in the way far to much. chuck some stairs and gaps inbetween them thatll **** em off for sure.

we should fill a huge ****ing skatepark with water make it tight and kite in it.

www.google.com.au/search?q=worlds+biggest+outdoor+skatepark&espv=2&biw=1517&bih=714&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiW6KP__rzKAhUkW6YKHS4yDG0Q_AUIBigB&dpr=0.9

why doesnt KA use its ****ing funds to do that? useless ****s thats why

Because Waveriding is such a core discipline hahaha... If Ian A is having trouble getting paid, I don't think anyone else has much chance.

Freestyle will slowly die, parkstyle (kicker, slider, freestyle together) will take over. It's a natural progression. As more riders get older and in a position to actually make proper events happen Parkstyle will start to dominate. Freestyle is such a narrow thing with little to no appeal to outside spectators/ media entities, it's only a matter of time.

Maybe the NKL will be the next best thing that's if we all get behind and support it. Instead of being all negative P.Ricks about a few lousy entry dollars and an annual membership to support our National Body!

i remember speaking to one world champ few years ago and were talking very high echelons of kiteing here with greatest sponsor etc etc

worked out to be 1k$ a week and you spend 10 months of the year being flown back and fourth for photo shoots and comps

its not as bad as it sounds because they can hock the gear which tends to be several kites and half a 4 or so boards etc so thats a nice little chrissy bonus and you get all the prize money etc etc plus interview moneys mags photo shoot change etc etc

honestly tho it would all work out probably less then a builders labourer makes a year in oz but for the developing countrys athletic finest its ****ing MAD MONEY for them. like completely awesome youd have to be a doctor or something to make the same ya know.

this is just what i have gathered over the years and probably grossly wrong

i know some my personal friends are "sponsored" and just get a quiver and release a few videos a year and thats basicly it. youll find this "level" of sponsorship is really more about them being a brand spoksperson who then trys to hook up deals where theyll get gear at theyre discounted "sponsored" rate which is basicly distributer costs and sell it to people on beach for a bit less then retail so its useually works out a great deal for everyone. so they might make few hundred a month doing this.
