It's Sunday morning, it's raining, theres no wind outside and all the weather forcasts are saying sh$t wind. But,"Ah Ha",20kts predicted later in the evening,I know there meaning a lot later in the evening, but after 5 min of running it around in my head("gotta kite mode, non rational"), I've convinced myself there wrong.

I'm in the car and theres no wind, "that's ok", I'm in the suburbs, it'll be on when I get to the bay. Half way there and notice flags on building not moving, "that's ok", there wet, it's raining. I'm 5 kms away and on top of a hill, no movement in trees, "nah that's ok", theres a bigger hill in front of this one, and the trees are wet.
"Da Da", I've arrived and bound out of the car, walk through some trees to the beach. Standing on the beach alone, raining and no one in site, I take a deep breath then think, "F$CK,THERES NO WIND". So, I jumped back in the car and drive back home.

Absolutely hilarious Doppelganger

Like my infamous 'It'll pick up' when we're all sitting, waiting, hoping, that the current 5 knots turns into the predicted 15/20 knots sometimes soon

When it's nearly 4am on Friday, and you've finsihed the last of four assignments due in today (Friday) which for some reason the last one always takes longer than you think lol...

You're finally ready for bed, ready to get up at 7.30, and get to work from 8.30 to 5.30, and then finish next weeks assignment once I get home, and also work on my lesson plans for prac, in case the 5/10 knots predicted miraculously turns into a 15/20 E'ly

There is always hope But hope is slowly fading This forecast is looking I think I hear the Cable Park calling me..... It might just have to do ...

You fill your kite up with hydrogen just to have a fly in 3 knot winds, like the hindenburg i wonder if that would actually work?

You know you are addicted to the forums when:

You consider devising a mathematical model to try and predict when people will ask if filling their kite with lighter than air gas will make a difference to how it flies.

When you ride down to your local spot in the rain(ride takes 1/2 hour) sit around in little wind, <15 knots with your 10m. Then kite for 15 mins in a front before riding home again. The whole episode took about 4hours

Hey I used a mathamatical formula to work out that using gas is great and you get 4 times the lift if you use Hydrogen as the H2 molecule weighs 2 and He2 weighs 4, so pump up the gas and make sure use you use Hydrogen and smoking is ok as its an inert gas.

you know your addicted when you keep coming back to forums and reading the same old crap over again. ( not in reference to any reply on gaseous LEI)

Rofl I'd say it isn't OK to smoke or having anything that could ignite H nearby as it is extremely flammable and goes off with a large bang. The reason they use He in balloons and not H,
Thanks

Has anyone had more than 4 sessions in one month where they have gone down to the beach - set up their gear convincing themselves that the wind is actually 5 more knots than it actually is or convinced that it will pick up 5 kts in the next 15 mins - got the kite flying and not had enough power to get going - then packed up and gone home

I've done that 4 times in May - luckily I had 4 excellent sessions to make up for it...

I'm loving this thread!

You're addicted when:

  • You draw a kiteboarding cartoon in your 'Start Of Week' meeting and starting out the window for any signs of wind
  • You get to the beach, pump your kite, boardies one, realise you left your lines at home and wonder 'will that guy's fishing line be strong enough?'
  • You call your old workplace and the first thing they say is, why aren't you kiteboarding?
  • Your girlfriend says can I have a fly of your kite and you seriously consider your answer

after what seems like weeks without wind it finally is forecast for two days.
so you drop everything, shun all responsibilities and plan to kite all day for as long as you can stand it for both days knowing that the next session maybe sometime away.

Monday Tuesday Bring it on.......at last..

When your first thought in morning is ....I woke from a dream this morning....thinking if wind farms use the wind to make electricity, how about we feed electricity into wind farms, spin them in reverse and make wind. In the all sensible dream logic, it should work, still trying to work out how many we would need to wind up the bay......

After 5 days of rain and southerly winds you notice the flooded cow paddock on the way to work, you spend all day wondering if you can kite it on the way home, hhhhmmmmm, take the fins off, use the grass tusks as a salom course.........

....when on windless days you go for a drive to Kurnell 'just for a look' and end up sharing stories with the Kurnell old boys and getting your kites out to compare bridle designs.

You know who you are!!

When you find yourself saying to a bystander "It's these windless days I wish I had a girlfriend" and only when they look at you funny do you realise that it isn't quite normal.
