the wa water police don't bust you for much unless your endangering someone, the marine safety guys are a different story tho, they will take every opportunity to practice their writing skills. i was only asking because my rowing crew was stopped for breaking the speed limit (in a quad so they really are smoking something strong) and a rowing shell creates little or no wake.
after talking to the cops i found that we can go as fast as we want so there is no stupid classification that restricts us.
...It's windy when you are at your usually over crowded local spot and it's just you are a few mates on the water having a ball cos all the new crew are to scared to venture out.
when you turn up at your local spot and have to get out the leeward side of the car coz the wind is so strong you cant open your door

1st attempt.. 35-40knots 6m kite.. FAILED we ended up hiding behind our boards because the rain and sand hurt so much..
2nd attempt.. wind died off to 25-36 knots.. 8m kite's AWSOME sweet as boostin sesh.. only proplem was the squalls coming thru with the rain.. ment we coulnd'nt see more then 5m ahead and you couln't look anywhere but downwind cause of the rain.

You know it is windy when a bloke with a high tech windmeter and data logger on shore is reading 63 plus knots last Thursday at Sandy Point, just before the unit **s itself in a huge squall that literally pulled the water off the surface of the inlet and created an almost total white out. Every speedsailor just hunkered down to sit it out. Above all the sand and water vapour sat a 7mt bow held by David T. I was sure he would pull the pin but he just rode the squall out then kept kiting. Not for the faint hearted and certainly not to be attempted by the kids at home but damn impressive.

back to topic...
You know it's windy when... you're lying on your back with your kite parked at 12:00 o'clock, behind your head on the healside, and you're still travelling upwind!
Well... for the few moments, before ejection, at least!
you know its windy when your picking branches out of your ass after getting dragged over dunes for 50m
I live in melbourne. I've forgotten what it's like to be windy. Is it after you've eaten Indian and downed a gallon of Guiness

It's predicted 20-30 and absolutely nothing shows [}:)]

All in all, if you get a kite the next day, hey, it doesn't matter - As long as the 15-20 predicted for 2day shows lol ![]()

Trade winds.....hmmm, here on Lizard Island, Far north qld, we are into our 3rd week of 20knots plus and last 2 days have been gale warning.....my trusty windtronic is recording sustained winds of 32-35knots with peak gusts into the low 40's.....trade wind? Trade in the 8m for a 5m maybe? I toyed with bringing my son's 4m kite up here.....doesn't seem like such a silly idea now...
birds are flying backwards and the lagoon is a sea of white caps. Island going off.
You mate launches your kite, you look down to see 6 meter trees 5 meters below your feet ( I actually experienced this at kernel, my mate had to go to hospital for laughing so much, the bastard! )
