no wonder our sport is going no where ,its because the public that are our potential new comers to the sport ,the people that see other kiters out kiting , and think g ,that sport looks cool ,i might having a go at that, but no, our sport is going no where because people that do our sport insist on making it look gay , by one more prime example, by wearing gay gloves , imagen this, a bunch of ****ters standing on the beach wearing bike shorts ,pink polo shirts ,with the colar up , elbo and knee pads , and gloves , to keep there little fingies tostie warm while flying a fluro coloured kite on the beach , ya got that image ? hello bend over, they look gay.

Hey Unhook I think you should stop worring about what people think.
Than maybe one day you can be happy just being yourself instead of trying to impress other people.
I personally don't give a rats what other people are wearing, doing, etc as long as it doesn't impact on me who gives a toss.
It also doesn't worry me one bit if this sport doesn't grow, more growth = more crowds and out of control Kooks.

Unhook - Mate I see you are only 2 posts into these seabreeze forums, so it might not hurt you to do some general reading about people and what they are asking before you blow your top over gruezi asking for gloves.

If you haven't noticed allready, gruezi is a top bloke and one of the many guys that make this forum what it is.

Who cares if someone wants to wear gloves? Who cares if some of us wear boardies over wetties? Who cares if we all can't to tripple summersalted doubble looped handlepassed spins with a board grab!!? And if you haven't noticed this sport is bounding ahead with kiters such as the Rat, PJ, Zebb, Ryze, Anderson, and so many more I could go onto mention. This is only in Australia, around the world, kiters daily are getting bigger and better and their progression is amazing.

Seriously, I know a lot of us would prefer to wear gloves too when it reaches sub 15 of so knots, not to mention the 25+ knot winds on top of it making it even more cold...

People these days care too much about what other people think... The most important thing is to be happy with yourself and who and what you are and how you kite and kiting safely. When you are happy with this, it shows with how you treat and talk to others.

Hey there Lizzy you make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I miss Reli, can't wait till he gets back from vacation so I don't feel so alone...but I have you thanks.

Guess what? I just made the 6pm news....I was at the spit this am 6ish and while kiting noticed that a car drove by and let out 2 dogs....thought nothing of it. I was out there for about 1/2 an hour when I see the dogs running out on the spit. Cruise in to see them and they were barking and started swimming towards me....well you know, so I boosted over them and over the spit (big lie too)...so I just cruised back out. Before I know it there are rangers and police with rifles..a huge scene. I packed up and asked what I was going on etc....well they interviewed me for the news..........and dam, I had already taken my hat off...it was cold and I could have been eaten.

I'm sure if I had been wearing my hat everyone in Perth watching the news would think I was a gay EMO.

unhook,

Gloves, well I wear them, and the rest of my gear, the less exposed the better I say, with my hand in the water body dragging trying to get the board in waters with Box Jelly fish, there no way I want to get stung. I'll wear the gloves regardles of what anyone thinks....

Gruezi,

I wear these gloves, not Dakine, but very thin and have good feel, get them from a scuba shop.

Hey Nick, congrats on the news gig, missed it but saw the cute little doggies at the end.
In regards to the glove issue try RADIATOR wetsuits in Freo. Saw some in there last time I was there and if they are anywhere near as good as their wetties you'll be laughing as they'll be heaps thinner and just as warm as other brands.

Unhook is saying that gloves aren't cool. Everyone says that they don't care what they look like or what other people think yet I see people wearing boardies over wetsuits. If thats not trying to look cool...!! If anyone is saying they don't care what others think then don't be wearing those boardies unless you got no wetty on.

I've found the Billabong ones toasty... they are thick and make lines hard to handle but, at least, your fingers are still mobile. Nice and grippy on the bar too.

They came in basic black too... So I don't think I've upset any of the fashion police wearing them, but just in case, my hairy arse is available for kissing.

I bought those Radiator ones that VB suggested...look light and comfy. Also picked up a rashie from the same shop....bring on the Winter.

I wonder why "unhook" hasn't replied Doesn't like being told by a girl lol...

Gruzie, throw a review up of the gloves once you've ridden with them on and they've become wet. I know some gloves can get really heavy, and not comfortable when wet- Let me know what you find

Whoa - whole lot of quotes here lol... But Spider, the reason I wear boardies over my wetty, when I do have to wear a wetty, is to protect my wetsuit. It's more comfortable, and surprisingly enough, that extra layer of material, even though wet, keeps you that bit more warm too.

Everyone has their own reason for wearing boardies over their wetty, some to pretect their wet-suit, some for extra warmth, some beacuse they don't want the dreaded 'wetsuit outline' etc., and some also because they might want to look 'cool'.

Once again, everyone has a different opinion on what is "cool", but wearing an item of clothing, be it a helmet, boardies over wetty, gloves etc., does not deminish kiteboarding, make kiteboarding gay, or risk it's progression.!!! That was the main aim of my post to 'unhook', not to say that certain things are or aren't cool. Sorry for the missunderstanding mate.

Hey Liz, I tried those gloves today..it wasn't too cold, but I didn't like then...they felt slippery on the bar. Took them off while riding and stuffed them in the back of my harness.

I will have to try them in much colder weather, I may then compromise grip for warmth.

However, the Radiator rashie was beautiful, really kept me much warmer than regular rashie, especially when standing in the wind after my session.

Many many morons out there who compromise "looks" for comfort, I'm all in to the latter.

And finally, I think the best Winter kiting accesory is my rubber hat...keeps me toasty enough not to have to wear a wettie just yet, and it keeps water from getting pumped in to my ear during crashes, and it even is good at keeping the sunnies on, also during crashes......yes I still crash a lot.
