Is kiting a breeze sport? What defines wind and what defines breeze? Are instructors informing students on the hazards of light or no winds?

The reason I ask....

Went boating today because the wind/breeze was less than 10 knots and perfect for the tinnie. There were still people on the local beach trying to launch their 11m and 13m Waroos. Worse still, even when the kite could actually fly a little, they were attempting water starts!! I estimated the wind at around 5 to 6 knots. Not even trainer kite weather. Putted in circles having a laugh at them until I realised that these noobs are making the sport look kooky at my local...sheesh!

Kites were stalling back onto the sand and there were passers-by everywhere.

Seems that people are so desperate to play with their new toys they will try anything.

Not long now ....... Grumpy Sam will attack....

he who hasnt been really desperate to try their new kite when there has been no wind since you bought it ,so you try to launch it as soon as you feel a seagull fart breeze, just so you can feel how it flies, cast the first stone.

But six new kites? Crowded estuary beach with 10m of sand?

Still reckon Grumpy Sam should patrol!!
