I rode on the weekend in sub 15's on my North Race board and later that day was approached in the shop by 2 sailboarders who were amazed that I could go as fast as them. I argued that I was going faster.... but any how.
Do you think that the quick popularity of the Kite race scene globally will see another drop in Windsurf numbers at your local? From the response at my local lately I would think so.
Could this be the start of the end for Windsurfing, or am I just out of touch with the windsurf scene?
We can now point higher, ride faster, jump higher, have less gear for cheaper aaaaand we can travel anywhere we want easier... They havn't got much left except for forward rolls...
Stoopid post
someones pimpin raceboards [}:)]
Its all lies windsurfings is better OK ![]()
Now we have that soughted out - there will be 1,000,000 less poleys taking up our kiteing space ![]()
and space monkeys right !!
i dont think so .
unless these boards are big enough to float you back to shore.
kiters will still have to swim back if it all goes to s..t.
coming from a ex pole dancer [still got me stuff could bear to sell it, i'll use it one day] i hope they never go away
Windsurfers do it because the love it. Most who are still doing it will not change no matter how much better kiting equipment is. Raceboards have nothing to do with it.
In terms of twiddley riding a good freestyle windsurfer is far better than kite freestyle (not that there are many good windsurfers around), until you add in big air then kiting wins.
Surf? Dunno. Don't care. I have more fun in the surf with my kite than I ever did with a sailboard.
Self-rescue with a kite beats swimming in a broken windsurfing rig any day.
gergo i thought if would be helpfull to have something that floats?
ie deflated \tangled kite on a sinking tt , way out back .ditch kite and swim in
sail board ,ditch sail and a long paddle in
i would never ditch my gear kites or sail either but if you had to ?
im a windsurfer, went to kiting for ten years, now back to windsurfing.
if you want a bit of a challenge, go to windsurfing.
if you want it easy... kite.
and, face it, kiting, the last few years, has gone really kook.
and windsurfing, you can launch almost anywhere, without being a nuisance..and hazard, to other beach users.
windsurfing aint dead.
freestyle is cooler...
and the waves are better.
not saying i'll never kite again, but im liking the windsurfing again. ![]()

If you get a chance, play all these sports. I now find myself in a position where I'm absolutely loving surfing, SUP, kitesurfing and windsurfing.
They all share similar skills, keep me fit, and I find myself in a constant state of froth because the conditions are generally good to do at least one of them!
Froth is good.
Word up Loza! it's all pure joy! Get out there anyway you can and get your rocks off! Lifes too short to sit around and wonder.
Luke
speed brother maybe its your technique that causes your uncontroled flight ?
do you fly cabrinha? watch out for trees too!![]()
All said and done, no one is as fluid down the line as a windsurfer is in perfect conditions. The way a polley can drive off the bottom and then smack or float off the top is second to none. Done right it makes regular surfing look lacking.
For me at the moment kite "surfing" has seriously pushed the boundries and Kiters are now in the pocket way more. but as for a few of the above reasons it still has not eclipesed windsurfing when your talking down the line.
I'm def with you Joe as far as flat water stuff goes, you'd be mad to just want to hang on to
a boom and say this is the shnitz.
For me on the east coast kites are the way to go and are the best option out in the ocean. but it ain't always about faster, higher and look at me spin.
Sups I love em! there is no comparison!
Luke
Have fun working it out it's all super fun no matter what.
there can be more to it than 'just hang onto a boom" in flat water...
couldnt disagree with you more - what regular surfing are you watching?
Surfing still kills it.
I just wanted to point out that windsurfing in the waves is insane for those who have the skills and conditions to do it.
As far as flat water goes I reckon your better off on a kite. I think that more and more flat water Poleys will be jumping the fence now that the whole kite race scene is evolving.
Either way as long as your getting out on the water in some way its all good.
Whats with this obsession of converting pollies? One minute you're bitching about how there are too many kiters on the water and its too busy and how many douchebags there are doing stupid things at your kitespot, then next week you're trying to work out how to convert as many pollies as possible?
WTF are you people thinking? Who cares if they convert, in fact, the less that convert the better. I'd hate to see another 50 kiters at my local kite spot.
Dont mess with the stig windsurfing is faster.. Any of you fellas want to go heads up i will be up for a race any time.. we will race for a slab of beer..
I would imagine that windsurfers that race in actual races love the fact that they all get really close to each other and the racing is very tight round the marks. In kiting, you need a lot more room so you wouldn't have that same feel of a bunch of other racers breathing over your shoulder round the course. Not to say its bad, but I would expect it to be different. So no, I wouldn't imagine that many windsurfer racers at all would jump to kiting racing.
Do all the sports you can, and do more of the ones you like more. Its not good for us to be the same. Variety is the spice of life.
