Hey folks

The 24m lines on my 12m Cab SB3 are starting to look a bit scary and I reckon its time to replace them.

Would there be any noticable difference in response speed if i replace them with a 25m set?

I'm no Hadlow and but I dont want to make the old truck any slower

Cheers
Huey

1 meter isn't going to change to much

No it will make zero difference that you can feel.
SB3 takes 4 equal length lines so you can use any brand, but I recommend the 360kg Ozone sets.

You will prefer 25m over anything shorter. 25m is pretty short anyway and wont effect your upwind riding ability.
25m wave rides well, your kite will have more wind window to turn in and more swing in the jump to clear large white water sections. In lighter winds it will give you time to surf and comfortably hit the lip twice before correcting the kites flight.
Transitions are much better aswell. 25m will give slightly more power through the turns making kiting more fluid flowing.
I was keen on fashionable short lines along time ago but gone back to 25m for all round riding.
I dont know how it will exactly effect your kite but I clearly know the difference with mine. Hope this helps ya bra.

1m won't really make much of a difference. If anything you might be better off going shorter as your kite is already on the slow side of the coin. Maybe get some 20m with 4 or 5m extensions to give you an option on the day.

Huey Duey or luey

Go the double as above

20m lines with 4 or 5m extensions - the 20s will turbo charge that old truck and the 5s will be great for 'Driving Miss Daisy'

its an oppertunity to have the best of both, that is presenting itself to you

it will take approximately 1.5 - 2 seconds longer to wind up your lines.
i think not much else would change.

Recently I went from 23m lines to 25m lines.
Its double the length you are changing but, Yes the 25m are slower but better.

No not at all, since I either don't know you or don't know that I may know you, and even if I did know you I have also either probably already forgotten that I do know you or once knew you, ok?

360kg Ozone lines are tninner than a lot of lines on the market that are rated to a lower breaking strain, so may as well get the higher breaking strain. They will also stretch the least of any braided dyneema lines that I know of.

Shorting lines on a kite DOES NOT make a kite noticeably faster and DOES NOT make a kite turn quicker or faster, it just makes the wind window smaller, and then it appears to the kiter that the kite is quicker because it is getting from one side of the SMALLER window to the other.
For the average rider, 20M lines are useless, as it reduces the ability to jump as high, but for wave riding, on some kites, they can help.

Unless you specifically want to ride waves a lot, then just stick to one length of lines and 25M is ideal.

I have a 12m sb3. I tried it on 20m lines but mainly found it just didn't have as much power, and that the power wasn't as consistant, more of an on off feeling, not as good for jumping. It definatly reacted quicker but overall wasn't as nice to fly as on 25m lines. I now run it on 27m lines as my light wind kite. The sb3 12m really is a truck, with my ss glide people are always amazed at the light wind performance I get out of it, cruising upwind in 8-10 knots.

Hey Steve, why the 4x360kg rather than 2x500, 2x300kg set?

Just curious as front lines obviously take a lot more load a lot more of the time. Do the 500kg front lines last much longer? Are they much fatter?

Still running the original cab lines on my sb3 and apart from a teeny weeny bit of wear at the point where they cross when twisted from rolls/loops, they still look very good. Will turn the front lines upside down soon to double their life.

^I thought the front lines were rated to 500 kg anyway, I don't think they make 360 Kg for front lines.
So if you buy a four line set, you should get the 500 kg in grey, and the 360 red and blue.

Value for money thats all. If the rider is under 85kg no need to go to 500kg fronts, rider weight over 85kg then yeah the 500kgs would be better and no they are not significantly thicker than the 360kg or even most 225-250kg lines.

Reversing lines is a great idea, so is checking front to rear lengths at least once per season.

@Beersy - yes thats the colours of all the Ozone line sets.

Hi mate have been playing around with line lengths for years and best length i've found is 21m for most wind and a 4m extension set for the light stuff(but cant remember the last time i used them),the 21m set DEFINATELY makes the kite turn faster and loop quicker, adding the 4m extensions gives a larger wind window so gives extra torque but will make the kite a little more sluggish, surf riding i would def go the shorter lines.
