I hate the following retarded throwaway line:
"The ocean is the shark's domain."
Who started that one ?
lol.
The whole freakin planet happens to be human's domain.
Well, ....it is, isn't it ?
That's because humans are very resourceful animals.
Nature is chaotic, there are no hard and fast rules or fixed boundaries.
Having said that, sharks will never be able to make land their domain.
That's because sharks don't have the smarts, legs or freakin lungs.
lol.
If sharks can kill humans, then humans can kill sharks .... for food.
Fair's fair, right ?
Also, how is a shark different to any other fish we pull out of the ocean??? Or a cow or sheep which we all eat everyday. How is killing one worse than another? Sh**s me..
Also people who say "oh but they are apex predators.. we shouldn't kill them" aren't we (people) the true apex predators??!!
I don't want to see em wiped out, just thinned and maybe (just maybe) to fear humans and stay the f away from us.
or try this... kid rides bike around neighbourhood gets mauled by Lion. Happens again in the same area. Do we not kill the hunt and kill the Lion because its his domain. after all it IS his domain !!! . Sorry but I actually like human beings
Totally agree. Add crocodiles to the list, took the kids to Australia Zoo, I was dumb founded when I sat through a big speech on how the crocodile is an endangered species and needs more protection. WTF, endangered?
If you want to run with the big dogs, you've got to learn to piss on a few trees.
Guess what if you kite or surf in GW areas your fair game. If you cant handle the heat, dont go there, use that big brain of yours and move to warmer waters.
Would you go to the baddest part of Africa with your children and when you family is slaughtered kill the whole village??
Sharks are really really cool. Spend some time with them and you will see, so they might eat a few people each year, big deal there is plenty more of us and very few of them.
If you really are the apex predator the human, and your afraid of GW's move to warmer waters. Guess what the lion doesnt hunt in crocodile infested waters, and if one was taken all the other lions wouldnt stand up and ask for crocodiles to be culled so they could hunt in the rivers more. Humans are weak and the ones that want to kill the apex predators are at the bottom of the tree.
notice how everyone promoting these articles and the likes on social media etc. are mainly those who never go near the ocean, probably scared of taking the cotton wool off.

but you want the 'cotton wool' when you go in the ocean..?
lol
I think that something referred to as Bruce taking you from behind adds to the overall excitement of kiteing ... :-)

mmmmmm, not all humans use the same logic as a prehistoric creature, they kill indiscriminately, and a have a brain the size of a pea, i dont think you should share a common reasoning with a shark? guess what, humans have legs, no gills, the ocean isn't our domain
All valid points WS....
My only argument would be one of compassion due to our dominant intelligence and use of weaponry....
Like bringing a gun to a sword fight or picking on a retard.....
Lol...
Humans killed by sharks worldwide per year - 4.2
Sharks killed by humans worldwide per year - 100,000,000
Fair's fair? I don't think we're playing fair.
Mixed feelings about this one. From a divers point of view, swimming with sharks is a great experience and i truly belive we should leave the ocean alone and not disturb there fragile ecosystem.
But on the other hand, if i saw a GW swimming towards me with the idea of dinner in its eyes, I would want to blow the f**ker out of the water.
Sorry if that affends anyone , i just dont want to be eaten alive![]()
Surely protecting GW's as well as their major food source the stinky seal which is almost in plague proportions here is SA is a recipe for a rapid increase in GW numbers.
Sure its their home but we are controlling all the other species and making it extra easy for them to thrive.
OK, even if we take the juvenile "the whole planet is our domain" line as our starting point and disregard any moral imperative towards other species there is still this simple fact:
If we are to thrive as a species we need a complex (and thus stable and self-regulating) ecology in which to thrive.
Any "us vs. them" mentality, when combined with advanced technology, will ultimately lead to the destruction of the complex ecologies on which we depend.
Even the most narrowly self-interested jerk should therefore realise that it's foolish to mess too much with other species and ecosystems.
If we're so brilliant at managing our domain unilaterally (as though from "outside" the system), why are we still cursed by and utterly incapable of regulating both the rabbit and cane toad populations that we introduced?
Ecology 101: No part of a complex interactive system can unilaterally control the whole system.
Wise participation (recognising that we belong to and depend on the whole system) is the viable alternative.

Sharks bigger than 2 m taste like ****, ammonia
Congratulations to the human race which oversaw the official extinction of the Western Black Rhino earlier this month. What's one more species. Fck it, let's kill everything so we can swim and surf and windsurf and kitesurf and eat each other happily ever after.

Classic!

Not to mention the bioaccumulation of heavy metals such as mercury.
Killing sharks to make the ocean 'safer' is ridiculous. We really don't need to kill every little thing that poses a tiny threat to us. Based on that mentality we should remove every single organism from the ocean that poses any threat to us. That means killing all blue ringed octopus, box jellies, stonefish, stingrays, coneshells etc etc. Is there a huge movement to cull them? No. People want to kill sharks because of emotions.
They are scared of them largely because of their size and reputation. The media definitely doesn't help either.
When you consider how many people die in the ocean due to drowning and other causes, shark attacks only account for a very low proportion of deaths. If we remove all the large predatory sharks, we are only going to reduce the probability of death by a negligible amount.
Is it worth it to completely alter an ecosystem just to make yourself feel marginally safer when in the ocean? My opinion is no.
We protect the great white and decimate other fish species that are part of this so called complex ecology argument.
We've already messed with the ecosystem, always will, why stop now?
We need to stop all fishing if we are to stand on our soap box about ecosystems and ecology. Then the balance will resume. Meanwhile someone's loved one is now dead.
I love all these detached academic try hard arguments. What if it was your brother, sister, or own child? Would you be so high and mighty and continue to quote and reference papers, flog bag.

Every species becomes extinct at the hands of something/someone else eventually...
We just might be the first to do it ourselves....
No need to be angry......![]()
FFS people. 5 people die every year from sharks. You guys are a bunch of ****ing soft cocks. You call the tree huggers the cotton wool people but you guys are wanting to kill things that are such a minuscule risk, that you have more chance of dying of natural causes.
So let's start with a couple of the bigger killers:
1. Smoking
2. Obesity
3. Lightning
4. Texting
5. Hippos
6. Aeroplanes
7. volcano's
8. Auto-erotic Asphyxiation
9. Falling out of bed
10. Bathtubs
11. Deer
12. Icicles
13. Hot Dogs
14. Tornadoes
15. Jellyfish
16. Dogs
17. Ants
18 Vending machines
19. Roller coasters

In your post, ^^^
You've managed to call me juvenile, narrow, self-interested, foolish and a jerk.
Maybe I am a jerk.
lol.
But you always come across a little too righteous for my liking.
Yes but from all of those above you will not die a horrible death and be processed into poo. Kill the ones that loiter around popular beaches, what's the big deal. It's going to do F all to their population.
