I thought I'de mix it up a bit yesterday whilst I'm still in Perth, before heading back to Vic.
Dragged out the 13m Edge and surf board in marginal conditions, starting at City Beach, up to Scarbs, and back again. Well almost back again. Wind dropped out on me completely at around 6pm, so ended up walking the last 500m back to where I started.
Good fun though. I don't understand why more don't do this. Doing a down winder and driving back from where you launched is a bit like driving your car to the gym to walk on a treadmill,
I usually go from leighton ,cottesloe or swanbourne which is way furtther down south of perth. To go up wind the edge is the perfect kite for going up wind.I own 2 of them and usually ride them in the winter on light wind sunny days on the river for cruising around. As for down wind wave riding the edge is not a good wave riding kite and especially in the big sizes.
My experience on the edge in the waves is that it pulls me off the wave and you have to fly it very high to counter - react its power to avoid this .
An ozone reo on the other hand is a wave weapon .I have just started riding this on down winders and its low aspect and lightning quick and drifts beautifully for geting in and off waves.I can catch a 100 waves in an afternoon easy.
The thing with the reo is it is **** up wind so driving upwind is the best option.
As the winter comes through sometimes it can be a north westerly so I can kite pretty easy to city beach down wind from trigg. The when it goes onshore westerly
its easy to kite back along the shore line.
Im thinking probably the main reason people drive is so they don't have to walk, like you?
And, have you ever packed your gear up while sipping a beer in the trigg car park? cause if you had you would know you don't need to pay for gym membership to perve at hot chicks in tights.
duh
Tacking upwind on a 13metre for extended periods is about as exciting as playing golf.
I won't be joining you.
Hey husa,
What are you using to track your positioning? I've thought about the iPhone with one of the sports tracking apps but would need to invest in a waterproof case.
Cheers

this is wrong... because golf is fun.. more so with beers.

B0wl3sy,
It's a LOCOSYS BGT-31 tracker, (used to use it alot in my windsurfing days) which is water resistant, but it lives in a waterproof pouch. The file is opened with GPSResults V6 program, (another windsurfing link) which allows the file to be overlaid onto google earth. Works a treat.
I think it looks like a golapagos iguana to me.
You've got me thinking.
Maybe create some GPS water art

yes.... do it! try and write your name. I do it on the beach buggying or landboarding. Obviously its a lot easier to see where your going.
