I am spending the first week of the vic school holidays (29/6 to 5/6) at twin waters resort near maroochydore. I won't have a car and was wondering if I take my gear can I kite in the river or on the beach near the resort. Can you also let me know if there are any area's where kiting is banned. I don't want to upset the locals or the local authorities.

Thanks

just stay well away from the flags, both near twin waters and also the surf club.
other than that, you should be fine.

Hi welcome to Marrochydore when you get here.

The main thing in the flaged area just stay about 100m away and you will be fine.
it is prefered that kitesurfers stay about 200m of the river mouth.

come visit us at the shop. you can visit our website and we have a map that will give you a idea on what the beach is like.

There is no wind in Melbourne I thought it was like the grey nomads and went north for the winter

Maroochydores a great spot. In the rivermouth is good flat water, and then out in the ocean for some swell. Just that in winter the wind is a bit fickle. I was out there yesterday and we only had about an hour of good wind before it died. You'll see when you get there where the good kiting spots are. There are bound to be some guys out there - if not just ask the guys at the kite shop. Just stay away from people and flags. In the rivermouth an outgoing tide is a must otherwise stay in the surf.
