So I have about AU$1000 to spend on gear, and am trying to decide what I should get. I would appreciate any ideas.

First, some background. I am a novice / intermediate kiter, happy on the sea, but not a wave rider per say. Generally I go through the waves and kite on the ocean. I can happily go upwind and have recently started jumping. I can't ride toeside yet, but am actively trying to learn it. Confident on the ocean and in gusty conditions.

I have a X-Bow 3 9m, Switchblade III 14m and Crossbow I 16m. the 14m is the kite I ride most often, and after a season, it is no longer 'crisp', but no other damage to it. Not happy with the 16m as it has high bar pressure, and takes too long to rig up - it is not single pump.

I am about 100 kgs and live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, so often only have around 10 - 14 knots wind.

I ride an Airush Exile 145 x 45 twintip.

So, now, what would you buy?

Option 1: get a lightwind kite such as a Contra 3 17 m to give me more days when I can kite. I would sell the 16m. I have found a new contra for around $1000.

Option 2: replace the 14m as it is not in the best condition with something like it but maybe the IDS version.

Option 3: Get a directional kiteboard and learn to ride toeside. Something that has decent floatation for lightwind days - any advice on what to get would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Get a brand new light wind board that will work with your 14m like the slingshot glide and get rid of the 16m as you would never need it.

Buy my 14m SLingshot T3, please check out buy & sell for details. The situation/conditions you describe are very similiar to what I have used the 14m T3. I have since got into the wave thing and ride a 13m Octane and no longer use the 14m.
Constant winds,
Baz.
