hey gang,
A newbie style question, but I wondered if any of the hundy club members out there have a recommendation on a waist harness for the larger gentlemen with a beer belly style of body?
I tried an old Prolimits L pro-waist harness (circa 2010) and enjoyed the lower body freedom but I also didn't like how it rode up into my ribs so I figured a modern day waist harness with a bit more padding would be better but XL harnesses are not as easy to come by or indeed test.
Done a bit of research and kind of narrowing my search on the Ion Hummer, or the North Air Styler or Styler,,,, so what do you reckon, are these any good for a larger gentlemen?
Not sure if this will complicate things but I mostly ride directionals so prefer waves but some times I do a bit of freeriding (aka jumps). I ride my current seat harness with loose leg straps so the hook can ride up, and it does slide about a bit like a waist but luckily not high enough to dig into the ribs. I don't like the harness tight or snug on me so I know I'm being difficult here,,,,, wondering if there is such a thing out there that would suit????
Thanks in advance for any advise you can pass on!
cheers,
Robbie :)
Ps I've snapped many spreader bars and hooks over the years so Prolimits is not going back on my list to look at although I do like their sizing.
Ride Engine? I bet dollars to donuts it still rides up though...
I've got a Mysyic Star (hybrid) and a Dakine Renegade. The Star is more comfy as it rides up at a slower rate due to the seat part, and the seat is low profile so the lower body is much more free for airstyle tricking.
Mystic Strappies look like a good solution, but I've been waiting over six months for the local shop to deliever on them
The other thing is the Battle Belt/Power Belt etc. Dakine ones are really elastic and strap down tight; I find this is vital for stopping the Fusion riding up into wedgie land. The Mystic has much less stretch/return and no secondary strap.
When I looked at North harnesses a few years back, the belt was just a neoprene flap -- no stretch. Waist size must be a perfect fit to the harness or gtfo. With the Dakine, you can wedge yourself in even when you're way over the waist size.
OR Session? Waist harness with leg straps basically... I have an XL but haven't used it yet as the straps arent long enough :o I can measure it if up if your waist is smaller than mine.
Mystic boa system on their seat harness, dakine vega, in xxl both come with bottle opener instead of hook knife![]()
Stick with a nappy Robbie.
From my experience big kites and waist harness dont work very well for us hundy members.
They work ok if you dont have the kite around 12 o clock too much.
When i use a waist harness and big kites or even when over powdered on smaller kites i down turn instead of going over the top.
Hey mate. Im in the same boat. Ion apex is the only one i found that works for me. I flip the spreader bar pad, more on top of hook, when the bar pulls up the pad sits flat
Heres a thought robbo. I used work fifo at karratha , i had a harness at home and at work, now I have a spare.
So if you pay the postage , i will send one up, if you like it flick me $100 for it, if you dont just pay the postage back
I have always used a waist harness, I find that my old mystic fires starter is still the best and u just have to look to find 1 on the net, my advice would be just try some before buying of possible
Can you get the harness under your gut a little so it holds it down in place? Try putting the harness on around your hips rather than the waist.....Might look something like this.
ive been using the f-one manera and its been pretty good ... had the prolimit prior and didn't like it much - f-one doesnt ride up as much and feels alot more supportive .

That's got the solid frame that the spreader bar hooks right into, no?
yep ! feels way more supportive , i used to get pretty a sore back kiting but not since using this harness .
... Hey guys, thanks for info and special thanks to "lostatsea" for the offer.
I still don't really know if I want a waist harness so I really need to try some more before I look any further, which is a pain in the a$$ 'cause of my size!!! Local shop has Large sizes and smaller but alas all too small. What makes things harder is I don't like the harness tight but I also don't like it riding up so not making it easy am I.
Thanks again!
Robbie
i used to run the flight control combo (flying objects) was and awesome compromise between waist and seat ... could leave loose and leg loops hold it down ..
just another option :P
