The octopus system is fantastic in my view. Sure it's a little more difficult to repair the bladders, but it deflates far more quickly than normal LEI making a smaller more compact package. Never had a problem with em.
Used to see sigma kites on the beach up to 2 years ago. Now I never see them. I read somewhere Naish used the sigma design to avoid paying bow kite patent.
I think kiters were hesitant to adopt the scary shape.
Kite Brands need something to have a Point of Difference that makes there brand special, unique and use this as a marketing pitch.
I call it "Kite Fluff" some gadget, fancy name or something to hype up the kite that no other kite has. So followers think is must be better.

I am looking forward to riding my 2016 kite with the following real features: Poly Load Frame, Dedicated Specific 4 Line Performance, Polyester Load Frame Technology, Sigma kite flex which enables the rider to turn the kite at ANY speed with absolute control, NEW Canopy Stabilizer ( better than the old one ) Radial Segmented Arc etc etc etc etc.....
my first and fondest memory of a naish sigma was one wrapped around the top of a mast on a boat at st kilda, haven't seen many since then
