do I take the lines to a shop? there is quite a big difference between them. its making me have to hold the bar really crooked. I guess the line needs to be cut and a new larks head attached. how does that happen? I searched the forum for stretched lines and then for re-sheathing but didn't learn much. Help appreciated.
Smedg,
I shortened all four of my lines from 27 to 24m..... ?I think.... I shortened them anyway.
All you have to do is unpick the factory stitching, carefully slide down the outer sleeve to where it needs, to be trim it off and then just hand stitched it. It doesn't have to be pretty. Just make sure when you re-attach your line, your hand stitched larks head is at the bar end so it doesn't get opened and closed on a regular basis.
I did this with mine 12 months ago and with regular use i haven't had any dramas.
Cheers,
Brett
You should be able to make the adjustments yourself. Don't cut them unless there is a huge difference. Lines will always stretch and rarely at the same rate. Depending on what type of set up you have and how much adjustment it allows you can usually do it simply by shortening or lengthening the others to suit (i.e. tie another knot to attach too) If there is a massive difference you might consider throwing another pigtail on the end or something similar. I overcame a 10 cm difference in lines in this way. You could cut and shorten if you had to but I personally would do that as a last resort.
I haven't tried this but the Ozone manual says that you can stretch the shorter ones to match.
Thanks for the help. have since noticed that the lark heads are noticeably worn so i guess ill replace them as well. unless there are fellow cheapasses on the forum willing to suggest just tying a new knot on these on the unworn part... I can't see any reason why not? its not too dodgy to do this is it? PS i didn't think it would make much difference but I got an 07 LF havoc and haven't actually laid the lines out to check the exact discrepancy yet.
Try stretching them by tying to a tree and a car, and SLOWLY driving off. I have never done this, but it could be quite amusing.
