Cruising around Burleigh Headland yesterday on the Gold Coast doing a downwinder, 
I glanced down and there directly below me was a whale, 
Was massive, its giant black body and the curve of its head
Freaked me out,was by myself
Hightailed it straight in and accidently dropped my kite in front of a wave 
and had too release it 
Kite got blown up onto the beach and a guy grabbed it for me just before it went on the dunes 
Lucky he was there 
Going off your jumping and almost hitting a helicopter story I'm going to assume this was a small dolphin?

You lucky Buggar! Ive been wanting to kite with a whale for ages, i love it when you get to see the critters of the ocean up close, except sharks, those can stay underwater. How far offshore were you?

I wouldn't be worried about the whale..
Theres a 17ft local tiger which cruises there heaps 
Good thing the whale didn't breach whist I was above it,
Would of had to do a rail slide along its back and down over its head

I ride with a safety leash to my kite
Last time I dropped my kite in front of a wave
I punched out and was still attached by the safety leash to the kite
The wave hit so hard it snapped the line
Was very side shore wind 
Had to swim in and run down the beach a km and a half
Then swim out to it and swim it in
A surfer had grabbed and held it till I got there
Otherwise I think I would of had to run along the beach for miles
My kite does not really flag out that well when I have to punch out
