I'm looking at buying a Flash Bomb 3/2. Does anyone have one they are using for Kite Boarding and will it be warm enough for the coming Melbourne winter???? Is there a better option as far as Kite Boarding specific is concerned?? Thanks Guys.

For winter I am using 4/3 and went and purchased a 5/4 from the dudes at www.cleanlinesurf.com/ ....
Their prices were quite good back when the Aussie dollar had more flesh.

3:2 not warm enough on its own for Melb winter. If you get a 3:2 you will want at least a 1mm rashvest/radiator top as well.. Else get a 4:3..

Thanks 33. Did you get out much?? I'm very early beginner. Only just standing ( and definitely wiping out). Should I get the 4/3 or go for the 3/2 and wait for Spring??

Hey Thedonk, if you choose to kite in winter , read up on what to do in the fronts as they hit you, ive been caught out a couple of times and it can be a real handful mate. There is some great information out there that gives you some idea about Kite position ect. cheers jeff.

My kids are all surfers and do it with 3/2 flash bombs however their actually in the water and don't have the wind chill issues Kiters and windsurfers do. I picked mine up for $500 z. I thought at the time I was just paying a rip curl premium but these things are amazing. Takes a bit to get used to the chest zip but once you break them in its easy .

I use a 4/3 and a fleece T-shirt underneath. When it get really cold I have boots, gloves and a neoprene hood+helmet but then I can stay out a couple of hours without any issues.

It might make you cry, but add a few holes in the bottom of the legs to prevent water cankles.
The worst part about kiting in a wetty!

A local here has one, compared to my mystic star , and I've had mine a season longer ,it's looking very shabby, lost it's elasticity by the looks of it, not saying they're bad , but mystic is a kite based company, also you'd buy 3 mystics for the price of the rip curl, the only wear and tear issue was the Velcro , but they give you spare so no dramas, I really don't look after it, I generally chuck it in the garage ,

I cut mine about halfway between the knee and ankle......
Can't stand Gumby legs

i had a kite specific ION strike over knee wetsuit a few years ago ( which was manufactured with the above mod) ever since I have cut all my wetsuits.

4/3 is the way to go for winter - 3/2 just wont cut it for the 3 cooler months June/July/August !
As for putting drainage holes in the bottom of the legs - yes that is one solution the other is Velcro bands to stop the cuffs turning inside out which is when you will end up with flabby/ jellyfish legs !!

If you're still at the learning stage , you might be wise to skip the winter stuff. If it's like we have here in Perth then it's all nasty storm fronts. Can be fun when you're experienced but typically unpredictable winds that can swing from 15 knots to easy over 25!

Wait till those lovely warm spring winds and you'll have a blast
