Any relatively safe places to kite Westerlies?
Looks like its all were getting.
No![]()
Tuggerah lake Central Coast might be the best option.
Kurnell, squids@Belmont, picnic point @ the entrance, canton @ Toukley, Swansea fish co-op...... Heaps
SW = Sandringham (Riverside drive), Dolls pt (around the corner towards Georges river sailing club side), Boat Harbour if you want waves. There's also Yarra Bay but IMO it's sketchy.
NW = Kurnell. If it's more direct west, go around the point from Silver beach.
As mentioned above if you could be bothered driving up the central coast there's heaps more options.
Which of those locations is the least gusty ? Or are they all the same because Westerlies are gusty ![]()
Keen to try Kurnell from the point of Silver beach...

winter = gusty
For a pure Westerly I'm thinking Kurnell would be best.
If for some reason you cant get upwind in Sandringham or Dolls I'm thinking there's its not a good walk back at all, beach disappears at some points and there's rocky parts.

Just be careful as it's gusty and there are razor shells. Horrible in WSW so if it's wavering between W and WSW you'll have a miserable time.
Quite gusty with big lulls this arv and swinging WNW a lot so tending to be offshore or cross offshore at Dolls and Sandringham. Not much fun! Hopefully more southwesterly tomorrow with a bit more consistency.
Has anyone ever tried that big sandbar in Port Hacking (between Maianbar and Bundeena) during a westerly? Looks like it could have potential, but perhaps not many good spots to launch from aside from a long walk out along the sandbar...
I once had a crack at Jibbon (east of Bundeena) in a strong NW. Wasn't too bad, but wouldn't support more than a few kites and it was super gusty.
I've thought about going to Bundeena during a NE, but it gets mega busy with swimmers and boaters during summer weekends... With the time it takes to drive there, may as well go to the Gong.

I've often thought of checking that out. But problem is, to the east just above the sandbar is overhead power lines, and to the west the land is very high, so i'd imagine the wind would be pretty bad.
At high tide there is a big area of water over the sand flat, low tide the only water is a thin channel under the power lines. A short waist deep walk across the channel from Maianbar will get you onto the sandbar, but close to the power lines.
The westerlys rip thru the bay (to the east of the sandbar) so i'd be very insterested to sus out the sand flat side
edit:
I just a good look at google maps to refresh my memory... I think as long as you dont stuff up and get your ass dragged eastery across the sandbar I think it would be pretty easy to avoid the power lines. But if you do ![]()
