So i went up to wedge this weekend hoping for some wind. only to find that my 9 meter was a no go, i had pre sensed this and after joking around with my boss i bought a cheapish wake board handle and 50 meters of rope, got a buddy to come along and ended up having a blast on a 3km stretch of beach at wedge island.

Check out the video to see what im talking about!

I wonder why.

Another reason to ban vehicles from the beach up there

Ditto
WA is (as far as I know?) the only state in Australia where we are still allowed to drive on beaches. A massive HUGE and very desirable right we need to maintain.
Wedge is opened up for us all with the schmick-as road and this is the result. Behave like this and it wont be long before WAKSA is called in to try to save another beach.
Wedge is very special. RESPECT (and common sense) is all it takes to retain our rights.
You want to water ski - go buy a boat.

are you guys serious ? this is probably the most respectable 4wd behaviour that occurred up there over the weekend.

I am not saying its OK, however I think the large contingent of wedge goers who regularly gets pissed out of their minds, drive around letting off fireworks, throwing beer bottles at cars and doing donuts meters from peoples campsites all night long pose a far greater risk to us losing access

What has this to do with WAKSA?

Guys in a 4WD towing?

Nothing to do with kiting.

Is it illegal?

We can do it here in QLD

Talk about fun police :(

pretty sure its legal, we were only doing 30kmph down the beach compared to every other drunk F head doing 120 plus, we were sober... and for the police or rangers... Theres not really much they can do because theres no laws broken, Just because we managed to have fun without wind doesnt mean you need to cry about it!

and as for having any relation to kiting, it was in response to the huge lack of wind that perth has had lately, something to lift spirits, but obviously........

Respect the place and find a open section of beach away from people and children. There is hundreds of mm yet people still feel the need to do it at the point. Gotta remember people have been coming there and living there for years getting pissed and doing what they want. It won't last much longer before the government shuts it down. So enjoy and respect what it is. The locals are such a wide group of people and have big hearts let's not f**k it up!

Apologies to drewmouli - my bad
A tad sensitive about us upsetting other beach users. But YEP to all - it was most defo mild behaviour compared to the 'norm' at Wedge.
BUT that will all change now its not isolated. The bogans time is limited. Just hope getting rid of them doesnt rob us of the right to drive on the beach.

We only came across 1 person on the beach as it was early morning, and we left straight after.

To the gibbo, what do you mean by need a tower?

A) You shouldn't have been surprised to find a lack of onshore wind in the morning.

B) It was a really good first time effort. Towing behind the car on that flat beach is alot harder than it looks. A long rope is needed and a willingness to drive the car through the small wave wash on the shore helps alot.

A long rope requires constant tension otherwise the middle of the rope droops into the water and pulls the rider into the hard sandy shore twice as quick. Any moves that will leave the rope slightly slack for a second will end quickly.

I agree. Couldn't of said it better.

Groups of hero unlicensed motorcyclists are the main safety/annoyance issue - car tow surfing is not. I was only up for Sat night. Thought it was pretty good for a long weekend.

There was a very noticable decrease in dangereous Crusty demon hero activity. Gotta thank the good work of the DEC Ranger(s) for this.

Have to agree on the bogan 4wdrivers up there at the mo'. We are getting on top of the bikes and now the licensed 4wd's are becoming the problem.
The cops are getting in there and working on it and we can dish out fines for d**khead behaviour, so hopefully the problem will ease in the future.
Just to let you all know that camping is banned along the coast from Lano through to Cervantes, this includes Wedge and surrounding areas, fines will come into force from Easter.
Now before you all go blow a valve, the reason behind the decision is the amount of rubbish, broken glass, burnt out cars, etc, etc that gets left behind is getting out of control. Once again its a minority of the population (bogans) that have ruined it for the majority.
There are plans afoot to put in a camping area but this may take a while while the issue of the shacks is dealt with, hopefully there will be answers on that soon.
In the meantime if you feel strongly aabout this make your voice heard through the appropriate channels (ie. members of paliament)and the answer may be sooner rather than later.
Sorry for the bad news.....

Nice improvisation. Not as bad as how the week end warriors drive on that beach. Soon there will be traffic lights and a McDonalds along that stretch as well.

Hey Drew,

Good improv work there mate. I have thought of doing same on other occassions, just never done it.

Wedge is bloody frontier land, real Mad Max country when the bogans fuel up on their cheap bourbon and wife beater piss and rev up their cars/bikes. The Christmas holiday period is nuts!

I love Wedge, just not the bogans it attracts.
