No shortage of fast turning, fast trevelling and generally good kites out there. Think we can all agree on that surely?
No one seems to have made a 'Link' for a while.
All you need is a kite that can drift back and doesn't fall out of the sky. Alot of kites do this no worry's.
What's all this nonsense about fast turning? If you want to do a million quick jibes on the wave that might be a good idea... otherwise its just going to get you into the wrong spot quicker.
I just had my first session on the 6m Eclipse Kima that I bought as a result of this thread.
Wind was almost straight on, gusting between 25-40knts with a fairly big swell.
Kite performed excellent very fast turning, large depower and good stability even when riding straight down wind.
The kite (and the 9m) arrived 5 days after my order was placed so no issues with supplier.
All sounds familiar (although a Nanno of differance) to me fjordy. Probably the same to anyone with an open mind too.![]()
Wrecked my knee on Sat out there with a bloke on a 6m Kima (me on the 7m Nanno) and that little 6 looked sweet as and fast for sure.
Only wish eclpise had sussed better graphics for the Nannos. Small grizzles though.
Enjoy.
I emailed an order for a 7m Nanno on Thursday morning.
Kite was despatched same day, NZ post tracking said it left NZ Friday 0630.
Excellent service, looking forward to my new kite arriving Tuesday.
Ok, I have deliberately stayed out of this so far because I do have an affiliation with Eclipse/The Kiteboarding Shop purely as a rider, and I thought I would let the kites do the talking.
However having just come in from a session in less than favourable conditions on the 6 Kima, I just have to say that this kite rocks.
It was mid 20s to mid 30s (within seconds), gusty onshore with a decent swell running.
Now it wasn't the best session by any means and I am definetly no Ben Wilson but the confidence this little kite gives you in these conditions is amazing.
There has been comments that Kima's are gutless, with all due respect I dispute that, I am around 90kg and find that in WA conditions on a 6'2" surfboard the 6 is usually all I need, often when others are on 9s and 10s.
Also it has been said that fast kites will just get you into trouble faster, that may be true, however if flown correctly they can also get you out of trouble faster and IMO, for a wave kite, the faster the better (and these are fast).
One of the main things you want in a wave kite is stability and drift, not only are these kites stable but they usually seem to retain some rear line tension so are always quick to respond.
Anyway flame away, but those of you that are onto them are going to love em.![]()
P.S. the Nano's are very similar.
Hey TL
No flamesuit necessary
Some of us as read have already been delivered the 3 different Eclipse style kites with excellent service and are very pleased with them being able to do exactly what their website description says they will do.
I personally am blowin away with the 10m Thrusters speed & jump ability and joke that its more like a 'crazed Mosquito thats just snorted Red Bull'
Its all good reading about how much fun we get from our kites and others like the Naish, North & cabrinah supporters are - as they do, free to post, show & express their joy also ![]()
Cheers N have fun - no pressure ![]()
I'm know what you mean about the 10 Thruster STW, after trying the 12, I ordered a 10 because I think that is a good choice for a reasonably heavy guy for the average Perth arvo on a TT. After using it a couple of times I have just ordered a 14 for my lightwind kite as well.
As this is a thread about wave kites I just want to point out that the Thrusters although a fast kite aren't as well suited for waveriding because you can't turn off the power as easy so they do pull you down the line a little fast at times.
Hey ta Cavey!
I was just wondering what supports were out there this morning. I am thinking less rigis and more neoprene though if anyone has any suggestions?
Cheers.
