Hi,
I have the following question an d I hope someone can help me...
I live in the Netherlands and kitesurf on the northsea.
Waves are not perfect here but say on a good day 1,5/2 meters.
I weigh about 90 kg and have switchblade k ites (8-12m2) and have north xride 133 now.
I am looking for a kite wave surf board and have two options to buy at reasonable prices.
Please give me your advice and reviews on these boards.
- cabrinha S quad 6'1 2011
- north kontact 5'10 / 6'0 / 6'2
- north whip 5'5
Love to read your opion....
Greetz Wes
Are the waves well formed or a little mushy? Important. If not real great that rules out the kontact and maybe even the quad but not as much.
Hi,
The waves are a bit mushy.
What length and board type would you recommend. Non of the ones I mentionned?
Greetz
check out what the locals ride, ive a few mates that kite all over europe, they use the underground and shinn dukes, not just for the performance but also the build quality, the coastline is much more demanding as a whole in the uk and europe due to the weather,
I think the S Quad is a good board but I prefer a North WAM if you can source one - get the choice of riding Quad or thruster. Im 95-100 and ride my WAM as a quad when wind is average then as a tri when its blowing hard. Seems to perform better as quad for heavier guys in lighter wind.
Seems to me the whip 5'5 would be too small but maybe you want to ride with a lot of kite power?
Of those three the s-quad seems to be closest but you're getting good advice here
- demo
- what are other people riding
If you're limiting yourself to these choices to save a few bucks, it may end up costing more in the long run. Get the right board and you'll be happier and spend less.
I'll second the vote for the Wam even though it's not on your list. Can run it as a quad or thruster, works in everything, 6'0 should be right for you. Probably other good choices out there as well.

Yeh I'd agree with the above, none of those boards would be ideal. The WAM for instance would be a better choice. The quad and the Kontact are really designed for larger formed waves and the whip is too small for your weight. Look elsewhere would be my advice.
airush choptop is great fun in mushy waves
also the slingshot celeritas is fun in the slop
the slingshot board is probably the best for moving over to a directional from a twin tip
i prefer the choptop as it has more flex
I've tried all the north wave boards.
if you want an all rounder go the WAM.
if you want mushy wave shredder go the WHIP, and if your planning on kiting Fiji or reef breaks go the KONTACT.
Im 80kg, ride the WAM 5"10 and love it for everything from flat water shenanigans to small mush to clean overhead waves
try some out.
I live in the North of germany.so northsea for me too.
havnt tried the boards you mentioned but have slingshot celeritas and tyrant.tyrant is a great allrounder for our conditions.strapped or strapless.celeritas is great for the small days but a handful when it's bigger and rougher.
Hi Guys,
The new North wave board range is amazing with a few new boards in the lineup.
The WAM's are back in same sizes but different shape. 5'8", 5'10" and 6'.
The Whip's are also back in new shapes in 5'4", 5'6" and 5'8" as well as the 5' 10" and 6' X-Surf quads (sort of part of the Whip range). The Whips are a little narrower this year with finer nose shape and grab rails for freestyle airs.
The NEW Pro series boards are 5'8", 5'11" and 6'2" and are a serious looking board. Low volume, thin nose and tail, loads of rocker and they have increased the strength in all boards this year. They weigh a little more than last year with the strength increase.
Nugget is back, as well as a new board called the Woohoo, (Sorry I have little info on this one).
Wezsell, for your conditions, probably the WAM will be most flexible in the 6' sizing. The new 5'8" Whip may also be appropriate. Kontact is great if you get smokin' windy conditions, but they are very narrow and need a lot of speed to really perform, so if you're waves are mushy and the wind slight to moderate, forget the Kontact.
One of my favourite boards from last year was the 5'11" X-Surf quad. For heavier riders (I weigh same as you), they are loose and really fun to throw around, easy to break the fins out and push the board as hard as you want, it always seems to find it's way back under your feet and made me look a lot better than I am in average conditions. The 5'11" is a bit too small for me to paddle but as a kite board it was excellent.
