Hey,

Just wondering is anyone has ridden one, and what they feel like, compared to a 12m Switchy?

There's not much info going around about them, Yes you can read all the 'reviews' and 'info' but I would like to know what the general public think.

Cheers.

A friend has one and he is stoked with it. I have flown it once but only for a short time and in marginal wind conditions (not really enough of a test to be able give a decent review of it).
My friends' other (older) kites are cabrinas (can't recall what models though). The Boss is the only one that he takes out since he bought it.
Not sure if this helps or not.

Yes We Sell them!
I ride them & love them, nice & simple kite n bar, Bomb proof. I slam the **** out of my smoke, (so good for unhooking). The relaunch is so easy & quick.
I would compere them to a Bandit or Delta, but they are not heavy on the bar & the Boss 12M turns as fast as most 9M kites. No joke!
The kite has lodes of grunt & will sit back in the wind window, when fully sheeted in & pull, not stall out & fad off power.
These kites are high performance kites but simple & easy to use.
The cabrinha's are a good kite but they don't do it for me, I like some excitement in a kite.
You will have to try a Wainman Rabbit Kite to feel the rush you get on those kites, go the 9m Smoke I think it will give you a bit of a WOW! Factor. & Post back.
Was I right? WOW!

They're hard to find at a good price!
Can't see any second hand ones either...

I was watching one of the guys fly one on Bribe beach the other day. He was obviously seeing how fast it turned - just cranking it from side to side at the top of the window.

It was a 12m, and it was turning like a 6... It was ridiculous... Soooooooooo quick to snap around. Similar thing on the water, he just cranked it from 10 o'clock and went flying into the air like a rocket....

The 9m Cabrinha Nomad I was flying at the time had similar turning speed - and it's a quick kite as well...

Yo Rhys Porter.
That was me. it was a 9m Smoke, I was the one doing the kite loops, & no I wasn't turning the kite as fast as I could I haven't used a fast small kite for a while so I was taking it easy to cold to get smacked.
I am 100kg and I was lit I don't know how low the wind dropped or how strong the wind got. but it was fun but f*#cking cold & choppy.
There was a 12m boss out as well it was the black & gold one.
The new Cabrinha looked good, did it have much power, didn't look like it was powered up. Would of liked to have seen a kite loop or two from you to see how fast the kite was.
Thank you for saving a friends kite after he punched out on the power causing the kite to fall out of the sky, on such a small amount of beach almost into the trees. YI HA!

Hard to find at a good price They cost $200 to $300 less than most brands. (please Explain?)
I don't think you will see many second hand, the 09 is like the 2010 with some small modifications and in black or white, a new 15M the big Mamma & 5M Bunny, as well as a new surf board range (they do look good) Hope to Demo one soon.

Yeah the Nomad doesn't have as much low end as a Switchblade or any Delta... Lol makes me feel a bit better to know that was a 9m, couldn't believe how quick it was...

Next time i'll have to ask for a ride ey!

I bought a Boss to replace my Cabrinha Revolver 11, but the wind gods have mocked me and I haven't had an opportunity to fly it yet - damn you wind gods!

I ride the Smoke (9m) and absolutley love it. It's really grunty at the bottom end, and has good top end (I've had it out in 30 knots and I weigh around 90kg and didn't feel like I was going to die). It can be tuned in heaps of different ways, you can even run it without a bridle if you want.

Price-wise, they're not too bad, they sit in the lower end of the middle of the price range (if that makes any sense...). They're designed to use the same bar on the 6.5, 9 and 12 (not sure about the new 5 and 15) so you can save cash by only getting one bar.

The new 5m, the Bunny, looks awesome, but I couldn't justify getting a 5m, but maybe the missus needs a high wind kite

I'm worried about the wind range, as I'm being told that its maxed out at around 25 knots.
(Rider: 70kgs, 182cm, 133cm Board)

Does anyone know what the rind range is?

I would be suprised to find a 12m kite that doesn't max out at 25 knots! Especially one that (from memory) is a delta.

I'm 85kg on a tiny board, and my 11m C is very powered at 25 knots. at 70kg I would think you would want a 9m at biggest in 25kn

That is a bit over the top.
I own a Boss and a Smoke. The Boss does not turn as fast as most 9m kites.
They are good kites and do everything well but I find them a bit slow compared to some other kites I have flown (Royal Era for one).
I like the way they turn and that is more important than straight out speed. Demo one if you can.
At your weight the Smoke may be better for over 20knots. I am 105kg my Smoke is good from 18knots on a surfboard.

I think i will get one, and use it as a summer kite, as it only averages about 19 knots during summer,

I have a wainman smoke and a quiver of switchblades IDS. I agree with Hilly; at your weight, the smoke would be more of an all rounder. I use mine as a 1 kite travel quiver. It has a wider wind range than the switchy thanks to multiple tuning options. It's a well built kite with alot of extras in the bag tht's fun to ride.

The Boss responds well to different length lines. Comes with 17+5 which I find a little short for light winds. I use 3m extension for 20m in higher winds, 22m good wind and 25m for light stuff.

Enjoy they look sweet too.

I'm looking at a 2 kite quiver, a 12m (Hopefully Boss)
+ an 8 or 9m as a higher wind kite.

Thanks for all your reply's.

Comparing to the Switchies the 9m smoke sits between my SB8m and just a fraz under my SB10m. Thanks to faster turning of the smoke I can get going in nearly the same wind as my 10. (12kn 72kg on a surfboard)
Hilly what knots are you flying your smoke on in the waves. (i'm on fastest rear lines and slowest front lines)

15-18Knots I use single line set-up 22m lines.
Use 22m fast and fast settings from about 18knots.
25knots use 20m lines fast fast setting.
I have used 17m lines insanely fast I should have used different settings on the kite.

I like the speed of the fast fast setting but do not like the stalling, I might try a slower setting on the front lines.

All good fun.

i have 9m smoke and 12 boss.
the stalling could be from the fast setting on the back lines.the tow point is to close to the wing tip.back lines on slow setting should fix the stalling.

Seems like there are lots of speed/turning options, every option but a safety system!
All though i do like the 17 + 5m lines.
