No ASP surfer would ever win a comp if he came out and surfed it with straps on his board, pretty much no matter what he did.

You insist on comparing kiting with surfing.
You are beginning to annoy me, Rowdy.
And no ASP surfer would surf with straps ...
cause the goddamn strap would be sticking into his chest when he's paddling the board.
STFU about kiting and surfing.

I only related it to ASP because other people were saying they wanted to use that judging system as an example.
It's not my fault surfing and kitesurfing can be easily compared. wonder why that is?... maybe because we are both trying to do pretty much the same thing. So don't loose the plot when people compare them, it's gonna happen, where do you think we got the idea to surf waves in the first place, ummm yep surfing, so it's not surprising that we are going down a similar path is it.

Lots of surfers have surfed with straps on their boards before and done airs etc. they just use soft straps, Gorilla grip even made them for this purpose at one point in time.

""STFU about kiting and surfing"" -

hahaha, why? what do you want to do? It's going to be pretty hard to run a "kiteSURFING" comp and shut up about surfing haha. You can't be on the wave or it would be "surfing" it, cant be doing unhooked tricks or it would be copying those "wakeboarding tossers", the only option left is to boost between waves. We can call it "Boostriding" its the future and completely new and totally sweeeeet.

ATTENTION: Boostriding comp is going to be held now instead, everybody must learn how to boost ride. There are 3 simple rules you must follow;
1. you must boost perfectly between waves, if you get to close someone might mention the S word and you will be disqualified
2. You may not make any sort of S maneuver between waves, or the S word may be mentioned at which point you will be disqualified.
3. you may not perform any sort of rolls or flips or someone may mention the W word, at which point you will be disqualified.

Dude,
You have major cultural cringe factor.
You wish kiting was surfing.
You want it to be.
This is a wannabee thing.
lol.
You wish kiting was skating.
You wish kiting was waking.
Just for once, don't you wish kiting was set free from all your constraints to find it's own path ?

I don't wish kiting was anything... You are confusing influence with duplicating a sport.

In this day and age you are never going t be able to do a completely new board sport (or any sport for that matter) that doesn't get influence from, or draw parallel's with an existing sport, it's just not going to happen.
Even boosting in my opinion is drawing from base jumping or paragliding. Even kiteloops the thing that everyone thinks is so unique to kiteboarding is really a paragliding thing called a "flyloop"...
There is an argument for everything in kiteboarding in regards to the "why don't you just go do XYZ sport instead" so I wish everyone would stop saying that.

I think kiting is finding it's own path already, there are things you can do surfing that work better than surfing, it's the same with wake influenced tricks and paragliding influenced stuff.

Can you spot the Freudian slip ? ^^^
lol.
Rowdy,
Here's a couple of cryptic jokes for you.

Q. "Why doesn't a kiter duck-dive his board ?"
A. "Cause the spreader-bar hook will smash a hole in the deck."

Q. "Why doesn't a kiter paddle his board ?"
A. "Cause it's too hard with a stick in your hand."

This is so funny to read - no wonder the wave kiting thing hasn't been a success in competition form -
No one can agree on how it should work

But seriously - you guys who are saying ride twin tips in the surf - get a f8888in grip

I dont get why anyone wants to ride twin in the surf - it looks and feels so lame compared to surfboard

plus everyone has been debating the strapped no strapped thing -

can we have another 2 pages on the hooked unhooked argument please - I need some more entertainment

ps if you want to see how not to run a wave comp watch a PKRA wave event -
It is horrible to watch the euros who are strapped up on 5ft boards and think they are killing it
they havent got a clue how to ride a wave - it looks so contrived

It may be a good idea to head down to Main Break at Margarets and see the locals strapped and hooked in 10-12 foot. If you can match that then you've got my respect. I sit and watch quite humbled..

on a serious note... I think this whole competition thing has gone too far. The whole judging thing has and always will have serious opinions and for me takes the stoke out of this sport and I see why guys like DRE, Aaron and Ruben have given up competion and focus on promotional videos.
I would be happy to come down with my camera, as I think would others. Sure have a mellow judging system but focus on getting some cool footage of everyone, pool it and make a cool little vid.... Everyone can then see what its all about. Expressing yourselves on a wave, getting together with other cool people and do what we all enjoy, get over the politics....

Why even have a combined wavekiting comp involving both parties in the first place ?
Strap-guy and Wax-guy, it's certainly an oddball pairing ?
It makes little sense cause they live different rides.
If the waves are big and gnarly,,,
If the wind is strong and nuking,,,
Wax-guy is always complaining.
Nag, nag, nag.
lol.
It's a doomed marriage headed for the divorce court.
They should separate and divide up the assets.
Strap-guy gets to keep the family screwdriver ...
Wax-guy takes his leggie and moves in with Mrs Palmer.

Ok, so you've come up with some radical stuff, chicken looops etc., mostly borrowed from older stuff. can you make a death proof leash with all your creativity.

Also think on how you make a bar that you can un-hook with that gives you depower...... I've got 2 prototypes.....using small bungie cords...one on the bar , one on the kite lines....mabe then we can do a proper cut-back.

What do you what to be, an anti-establishment prick, or an anti-establishment leader......................

A casual get together on beach for comp is WAY better than it being to organised, as red tape, approvals etc will kill comp. A WAKSA comp is way to hard. So Waveslave that sorts your problem.

Oh my,
WAKSA was announcing this comp as "The Official WA State Wave Comp." ^^^
They had big plans.
Has someone bothered to inform WAKSA ?
That would be the polite thing to do.

Ok, so if surfboards are to be the craft of competition will there be a spot for bodyboarders and kneelos who kite. We don't use straps and some times unhook and we get tubed way more than the standups.

I agree with Jonno, just do it......winter kiting has a 24 hour window of predictability, thus it is put your mob phone in a loop and then when the conditions are right it happens.

My advice for the scheduling of the coldfront comp would be as follows:

First thing you do is decide on a month ...
Let's say August cause that's usually the coldest and the gnarliest.

Now pencil in all the Sundays of that month as potential frontal windows.
(I picked Sunday cause folks are usually available on that day.)
You're lucky cause there are 5 Sundays in August 2010.

All the competitors are now aware that any Sunday in August could get the green-light ...
depending on the strength and the timing of the coldfront.
Don't be too hasty,
Pick the right one,
You've got 5 chances,
Good luck.
