It's that time of year again... time to kite and be merry!
To help start the festive week, WAKSA is having a Xmas Downwinder between City Beach and Brighton this Sunday. We will meet @ Brighton Beach (same spot as last time) from 1.30pm.
Our bus will start shuttling kiters from 2.00pm and goes continuously until 5:30pm.
There is no cost to WAKSA members and you can get on the bus as many times as you like, it's simply going to run back and forth all afternoon.
Afterwards WAKSA is hosting Christmas drinks at the Indi Bar (Indian Ocean Hotel - 23 Hastings Street, SCARBOROUGH) and all downwinder participants get their first two beers free!
So come along and join heaps of other kiters for a great social afternoon and a couple of Christmas drinks this Sunday!
New members welcome to join on the day.
Hope to see you all down @ Brighton this Sunday afternoon.
I'm in
. "AND WHAT"? Two free beers
. So how does this work guys, if I manage to do three downers on the day, does that mean I get six free beers? ![]()
Haha I'm positive vbman, just forecast has dropped around 5 knots!! Will have to get a ride on your hammer this time mate
Mmmm Kite, Beer... All the good things in life. I think there's even a band playing down at the Indi later as well. Should be good. I'm in!
"it's simply going to run back and forth all afternoon"
Waited 1hr and 15mins. Bus finally arrives with news that that they are going to wait for all the previous session kiters to derig so that they can do it again. I can still see some laggers far in the distance. Obviously at least another 1/2 hr to 1 hours wait. Went home, as did some disillusioned others.
How many times did the bus go?
Merry Xmas
Well, there you have it...organise a downwinder and the wind doesn't do exactly what the forecast forecast...
Something like twenty five kiters risked the elements this afternoon for what can only be described as 'light winds'....the first bus took off from Brighton beach sometime after 2.00pm with the full compliment. Those who did the first run from City Beach had to work their kites pretty damn hard to make it back to Brighton but they managed (some might say struggled) to do so.
A second run took off about 3.30 or so with only a handful of kiters on board and again, the wind was a bit light at that stage of the afternoon...the third bus trip however was less than wonderful, departing sometime after 4.00pm and ending up with a couple of stragglers having to walk more than anyone would have expected at the start of the day.![]()

It was one fo those days where it was nice to get wet rather than a blow your t!ts off downwinder. Those that did manage to make it down for the event had various tales to tell over a refreshing beverage or two later on at the Indi Bar (who says kiters don't like beer???). It was a great afternoon to meet a bunch of kiters who hadn't been to any WAKSA events previously.
WAKSA is always looking to improve the events we organise for our members and look forward to working with members to make the next downwinder even more successful.
Happy Xmas everyone. Here's to green arrows and big winds over the holiday period. We hope Santa brings all the kiting gear you asked for and the new year brings days and weeks of sensational kiting.
Seasons greetings from your WAKSA committee.
I was on the first bus and managed to get 3/4 of the way back until my kite hit the drink and I struggled to re launch .... Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the event . Met some great people and gained some very good advice on kiteing .. I was dissapointed I couldn't stay for beers , as I love a beer ,but without a designated driver I was worried about the drink driving thing .. Maby next time the bus could do a drop off at my place ???? HaHA ....... Thanks to the WAKSA guys for doing all the organizing and taking regestrations on the day .Can't wait for the next event .... TOAD ...
