Just checked the forecast and it looks good for some course racing this week!![]()
We have planned to run races this Friday 17th and Saturday 18th
The format will be the same on both days and only the start time will change.
Location: Leighton Beach south of the foot bridge (just look for the race boards)
When: Friday we will try and start the first race at 5:00pm so its probably a good idea to try and get there around 4:30
Saturday: We are planning on starting the first race at 4:00pm so once again its a good idea to try and get there at least 30 mins before.
Airush are once again providing a small fleet of Sector 60s for people that want to race but don't own their own race board yet. So anyone that is keen can come down and give it a crack!
If anyone in the course racing email group reads this can you please cut and past it into an email and send it to the rest of the group. I have been trying to but i'm having problems with my email and i cant reply to the group from my work email.
Thanks
Also we are looking for a volunteer to do the Starts and record the finishes.....any takers?? (they dont have to be kiters or even know anything about kiting or racing)
^^^^^^ we are still planning on holding races on Saturday too but Friday comes first
...... So we will see you there tomorrow and Saturday
Hey just found out from WAKSA - Great to know what is going on and be able to share it with the racing crew.
1. Today Friday arvo - is a practice day for racing.
2. Tomorrow will be part of the WAKSA series and races will be counted.
(Hopefully no one
will cancel races at last minute! as the sea breeze is looking fine at this stage with no chance off of shore winds in site for weeks )[}:)]
forecast for tommorrow looks crap all of a sudden
Saturday: S/SW winds 13/18 knots tending S/SE 18/23 knots for a period during
the afternoon, tending E/SE 8/13 knots later in the evening. Seas to 1.5m to
2.5m. Swell to 1.0m.
:(
We had some great racing yesterday down at leighton.
Thanks to everyone that came down and a huge thanks to Tim for doing a fantastic job of running the starts for us. i don't think he missed a single beat all day.
and the best thing is is going to be on again today!
So if you missed out yesterday make sure you head down today at 4:00pm
I'll post all of the results hopefully tonight.
Yep lots of fun, some fast racing to hone the skills & give us stuff to work on. Great to see 2-3 new racers having a blast and making it round the Leighton coarse with good time.
P.S I'll get some more rope and chain and set up start for racing today.
i'm just about to head down , have a swim and wait for the wind to come in so i can try and attempt some ducktacks :P
Hi all. Damo is away this weekend so asked me to post the results for the series. He will check them when he gets back in case I have added them up in an incorrect way:P.
So these are the results from Friday:
And these are the overall results:
I checked out a 2x new kite race courses at Leighton yesterday - Sunday - and will give a smash this week to see which or both are viable for racing. Both have all ready set bouys on bottom and very upwind reaches and we will just need to set start bouys.
Saturday racing we had great 20knot wind but at Leighton & 8 or so racers ready to go , BUT, as we arrived the beach there were at least 30-40 inexperienced kiters riding through our race course ( it is a public beach so anyone can use it and it was Saturday arvo - during week the Leighton is perfect for racing in ocean conditions) We watched as 2-3 kites crashed every minute in the solid 20knot conditions. The course is about 4km long triangle passing through other kiters 2-3 times over race, and we decided to cancel races as it was just too dangerous as a pack to race through 30 plus newbie freeriders. We all had a bit of free training session and 2 of our crew hit by the newbie kiters over the next 45 minutes -
As soon as I get a new coures set ( away from the newbie weekend pack & at quiet section at Leighton )maybe we can get the crew together to recheck it out...
was good to meet the guys on saturday , unfortunately i copped a kite crashed into me while out practicing and gave up . Was a ****ing circus down there on saturday .
BTW what was the mailing list again johhno ?
Hey guys.
My course racing series has potentially come to an end with the loss of my beautiful race board this afternoon. It is the North Race Ltd 2011 69 edition, signed by Steph Bridge and everything. It is a rare board - I think the only one in Perth. If you happen to hear of anything please let me know.
Thanks, Alty
I was out at Melville, a fair way to the west. I had to pull the safety to get out of an out of control bow tieing kite and couldn't get back to the board. I scoured the north shore by foot once I had self rescued to Melville but found nothing. I suspect one of the passing boats may have picked it up.
that sucks dood . those thing are hard to miss floating about . have ou checked with freshwater bay YC ?
Looks like good wind today and I'm free to kite. Is anyone organising a race today or is it all over?
