Thats because all the inflateable boys hate the idea that doonas are in fact a better wind machine . They all own inflateables because everyone else ownes one not because they are better. Its the sheep mentality, they cant help themselves.

Its a bit harsh mate.
I'm suggesting that you & I should open our minds to try every different type of kites and see which one we feel comfortable with.
And compare the cost as well, it`s an important factor!!

I said it's a factor, I didn't say it's that easy.
You can say than every kite is around $1500 and Eclipse is $700 so..., can you choose now?

(Edit: maybe you are right cause I'm thinking about getting one 12m Thruster )

What cabs are $1500 retail?, 12m switchys are about $2200. You can pick up a 10m pulse 2(almost a one kite quiver) for about the same price. Peter lynns are even cheaper

Hi Ian
I heard that you are a very experienced Hang gliding pilot!
Why did you give up flying?
(Each time I'm talking about kite surfing to other pilots they all mentioning your name)

I know you probably know no better, but a "low mobe" is just another kiteboarding screw up, it doesn't exist.
It's just called a "Back Mobe", or origanally known as a "Mobius".
If you add the prefix "low" on the front it is like saying "ATM machine"......
When you do what you would class as a "high mobe" its called a pullup.

Beautiful imagery.

There's a simple three step plan that will almost guarantee kite sales:
1. Make demo kites readily available at all popular kiting areas.
2. Get some brand ambassadors out at the kiting areas so the kites can be seen showing their stuff.
3. Bring the prices down to match at least the premium brands.

I buy name brand kites from a local shop but even those I will not buy until I have had a test ride.

Brand ambassadors don't need to be pro riders, just competent experienced riders. Personality and communication is probably more important the extreme skill.

You need to prove that the cost per kite vs cost per quiver is at least on a par with premium brands. It's ok if individual kites cost more as long as the whole quiver is not too much more. Durability and longevity only matter in terms of resale. I get bored with kites after 2-3 years so I want to trade up and get new toys.

The light wind thing is a bit debatable. I ride happily powered in 12 knots on my 12m Switchblade. Certainly before any other riders around here.

My new 3 kite bow quiver should take me down to 10 and possibly 8 knots with a top end of 40+ knots for the price of two Flysurfers. Again, you have to prove to me that a two kite FS quiver would have the sweet spots as well covered as 3 bows. Three kites also gives me multiple redundancy in case of equipment failure. Is it tempting fate to say that since using name brand bow kites my total repair bill has been about 100mm of repair tape? My time lost to equipment failure is zero.

To be perfectly correct, I was not the only one out that day, but probably the only one able to kite for 2 hours without having to ever do the "walk-of-shame"? ;)

Gorgo, in term of windranges, I think modern Flysurfer kites are similar to modern bow/hybrid tube kites. Hence the best is still a 3 kites quiver also with this kind of toys (I have 3 Flysrufers: 15m, 10m, 6m covering well the wind range you mentioned).

One thing to keep in mind when talking price is the resale value which is pretty good on Flysurfers (if compared to tubes) and also the fact their "shelf life" is a bit better too (that's my opinion anyway).

Not trying to specifically promote the brand (it does not bother me at all to only see a few Flysurfers around), but if anyone is curious and want to try my kites, give us a shout, always keen to share the passion I have for these. :D

Bye

Yes I did fly hang gliders and paragliders formore than 10 years but once I moved back to Perth is was much easier and just as much fun to go kiting. Getting a leave pass to go flying for a weekend was almost impossible whereas walking down to Scarbs for a couple of hours was not so much of a problem.

I've flown just about every type of kite made and I love Flysurfer for value for money including the total "fun factor", least of which is max 5 minute setup and easy water relaunch :-)

Another thing to consider is that the bottom end performance of Flysurfers means that you don't have to switch kites, nor walk back up the beach as often.

I started importing them only because nobody else would and I wanted them for myself as well as teaching with them.

If anybody wants to find their local "Flysurfer ambassador" then please contact me - like Jacques, most guys who fly them are more than happy to let a competant kiter see the many benefits for themselves

mmm ok. how do we distinguish between that and a PKRA standard mobe, is that just like different kite hight, so more score for the lower kite hight, or do they score completely diferently coz they are 'different tricks'?
