Parks Victoria have invited representatives from KBV to attend a number of consultation Workshops regarding possible kiting restriction zones in Port Phillip Bay and Westernport Bay. Potential kiting restriction will be considered as part of this Boating Zones Review.
This is a very serious issue for kiters as the information and ideas at these Workshops relate directly to continuing to keep all Victorian beaches open to kiting.
KBV Members and Contacts were recently requested to notify their interest as a "local Rep" for attendance at any of the Workshops. However not all slots for attendees were filled. There are five workshops scheduled with meetings at Portarlinton, Geelong, Safety Beach, Carrum and Port Melbourne. The spots for Port Melbourne have gone but KBV are still seeking "local Reps" for all other regions. Please contact KBV via their website under http://www.kbv.org.au/?go=contact if you wish to be involved.
As an update to the request for local Reps - not one kiting representative from the Safety Beach or Portarlington areas has come forward. So if restrictions are imposed by Parks Victoria on kiting in these areas with no kiter opposition you only have yourselves to blame.
Has an email been sent out to KBV /AKSA members to let them know .Probabbly a good idea if not .Not everyone comes here
Yes KBV Members and Contacts [around 470 kiters] were asked via direct email on 17th July and on the KBV Website to step up to assist in attending the 5 Workshops at various areas around Port Phillip Bay. Only a few responses were received with no coverage for Safety Beach near to the very popular Rosebud kiting area and Portarlington.![]()
We therefore decided to go to the wider kiting population for support leading to the Seabreeze message.
We have now received enough responses to cover each of the Workshops and thank you for you interest
