I'd like to learn vertical rotations next.
What I am thinking of is a hooked rotation around the vertical axis as opposed to a horizontal front- or backroll.
Is there a good video on how to do it, and what is the move actually called?
Yeh the so called back front roll is really a spin on the horizontal axis.
Um...to start with hooked in (good idea) check out Toms kitchen 1 or two. He does these double forward rotations more in the vertical plane. It's how I got them sorted. unhooked is really the only way you can get them truly around the vertical axis, but hey for us hooked in mortals it's good enough.
The forward rotation is the easiest. Go into your forward rotation, then throw your head back down and look at the water. Throw your legs back over your head. grad the back rail for as TOm says...to look 'stylish'.
Even hooked in yu can pop against a kite set at say 10, then land blind and fool your buddies into thinking you unhooked...bahahahh
Agree, start with the forward spin. 25% into ur rotation throw ur feet up & head back. Add a tailgrab. Easy but stylish.
A rotation around the vertical axis would be a flat 360 (ie, - spin) Is that what you mean?
No, the other way around, but I agree that I messed up the terminology there.
Saw some Maramenides videos, which I was inspired by at first, and looking at it now, it seems like a lot of his vertical spins come off a frontroll, just as has been described here. I'll start working on that.
Would it be harder to flip off a backroll?
I find a vertical..ish back roll harder for some reason..but if I do a quick transition, so take front hand off, grab back rail...vertical ish backroll then go the other way it seems to be easier. or try a double back roll transition (with a downloop), do the first one horizontally then flick over your head for the second one, dimitri does these well. Landed a few of these, but ate **** all the others....this season maybe.
Its all about the way you're looking. Look up and to the side on a backroll and under your armpit for a front
