Hey All
Heading to Vanuatu for a friends wedding in August and notice the Vanuatu Kitesurfing Classic is on at the same time we'll be there. Trying to find some information about it but can't seem to find anything concrete. Has anyone been to this event, know where about's it is held and where if good to stay near by?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
Take kites!!!!
Don't know where the event is but when I last went there over 15 years ago kitesurfing was nowhere to be seen but when we stayed at iririki island there was awesome wind and because it's an island any direction works. I was windsurfing there and it was awesome so I would say you can kite anywhere around iririki island (not sure of the spelling). There is a free ferry that runs between the island and the mainland (port villa) which is only a couple of hundred meters. Awesome place and you'll love every second of it!
There were heaps of boats moored and hanging around all around iiriki last time i was there (2011 or 2012). Maybe it was just a busy time, yachties everywhere, some mega $$ boats and lots of kiwis.
Kakula island would be a good option as well.
I saw a few kiters near hideaway island. I think its Mele beach? Another lone kiter off some random beach in Tanna. Life's tough for him!
Close to brisbane, 84 islands, plenty of places rarely seen by man, wind, lots of fish with pointy noses, friendly locals, cant really go wrong ![]()
Thanks for the feedback guys. I was actually chasing some information on the Kiteboarding classic which was run there in previous years but I am not sure if its running this year?
I'm guessing that's a no one knows anything about this event then?
Try contacting Thomas at the local kite shop in Vanuatu. Sorry I don't have his details handy, but I had no trouble finding him on google. I kited there last year and loved it. Great place, friendly people and wind too ! I took a 12m rebel and had fun.
