I know this must have been coverd a hundred times but need some advice.
Need some fin advice, got a new Vader used to have a Vanguard. Rode the Vanguard thruster but open to riding Vader quad or thruster not sure which one would be best. Not riden a board quad but as I am buying new fins be willing to give it a go.
What Futuer fins should I get?
Ride Perth conditions love heading to Lano. 87kg Int/advance 5'1 Vader?
Fin choice us pure opinion man. Do you have a local shop that demos fins? alot of shops do these days.
I run my vanguard as a quad but my vader as a thruster, my mate rides the opposite, his mate runs quad on both and I saw a person the other day riding twin on a vader. lol.
I can say, I'm a big fan of the "ride number" system that future has. it helps choose what you may be after. just go to their website and have a look
Yeah, some people prefer their board to have big fins and ride like they're on railway tracks while others prefer a loose or skatey feel. Generally the standard fins supplied are the best all round for the board.. But everyone has a different preference. Bigger fins equalls not forgiving and a very bitey throw you off kind of style behavior, which sux.. I like a carve n shred set up ??

Ps, how's the board holding up... Has it dinged and broken up like they do?

since when do vaders break? they are too strong to be honest.
Haven't had a chance to ride it yet so not sure about durability, my Vanguard held up really well over a couple of hard seasons.
Luke the idea of demo fins. I like a board to hold a hard turn but love the feeling when you get it to slide out.
i guess I am just going to have to buy a set up and see.
TBH I don't notice that much difference between all fins and setup...
Currently running F437 plastic quad on my Vader. Definitely prefer a quad for upwind and it turns sharp still.
Small and skatey is more fun!
I've played around with a few different FCS and Futures, as a few people have said it is personal preference a bit, but the main thing i'd avoid is the high ride numbers in the Futures (the "speed generating" fins). They have a bit of scallop in the fin which doesn't work well on a kiteboard. The quad setup is fun but will take some getting used to if you've been in thruster mode for a while! I'd go with bjw's recommend and go small and fast fins and see how it works for you, and like Ryland says if you can get a five fin set then you can mix it up!

think the story was, that they snapped their thruster and said f..k it, ill keep riding it this was. pretty wild
I bought a cheap plastic set of 5, just to see the differences between quad and thruster on my EVO.
I've since bought a decent set of thrusters, but use the two smaller plastic fins from the set when I want quad mode. I'll keep doing that until I find a good price on those two fins.
It's nice to be able to switch between the different sets depending what the conditions are.
eorth mentioning aswell that there are always good deals on gumtree and the such for fins. heaps of folks buy a set and find they dont like them so sell strait away.

Can you share some examples of sets for X conditions ?
Cheers

I bought a 5 fin set of Josh Mulcoy fins from Gumtree, good price & go great in my Evo

So far found the quad is good for an onshore wind, the board is faster and tracks upwind at a better angle over thrusters. The board isn't as skatey as the thrusters and the carves are a little more drawn out. I guess if I push the tail harder it'll slide earlier, I've not tried that.
The thruster set is good for cross on shore type winds, nice and skatey and carves as tight as you like.
I've not had the board long so am learning it's traits. Don't forget my board is the EVO, so has some more 'channels' underside.
I have found it not so good with cross winds and thruster when trying to get out over big walls of water/white water. I have a board designed for those conditions, so use that if I can.
I got the EVO for light to medium winds and use my other board for bigger winds/waves/cross shore wind. I do really like the EVO, but I am still learning what it can and can not do. I do not kite only one beach, I kite many different spots, so no two sessions are alike.
