Who really gives a damn about going for a swim in the morning??
The real nightmare is not being able to go for a kite after work, like the rest of the country!!!

Yeah I'll vote no too daylight savings just so the select few idiots can go for a swim before work rather than go after work and have more time to do other stuff, like kiting or spending quality time with the family.

NOOOOOOO WAAAAAAY Sandy!!

Honestly, I think you've posted this thread in the wrong section. Perhaps the "morning swimmer" section may be more appropriate.

I myself really appreciate the ability to do things "after work" (for longer) in the evenings throughout the summer, especially kiteboarding!!. Im sure the majority of WA kiteboarders would feel the same as the best prevailing winds for us are in the arvo/evenings.

The DLS trial has opened up a new world of summer afternoon activity, enthusiasm & stoke for me that I couldnt really take advantage of before.

The darker mornings of DLS are only right at the start and in the mid to latter part of March anyways. A few weeks of darker mornings isnt really that bad surely...?

If DLS does get in the WA gov has mentioned it will most definitely consider ending DLS at the end of Feb as this revised version has the most support.

I surf alot in the mornings before work through winter, spring and autumn and have no problem when the DLS change over occurs. From DLS commencement forward, until DLS end there is basically no surf. The kitesurfing season kicks in as DLS does & its all about the afternoon/evening sessions....Yeah baby!!

Call me selfish, a city slicker, greedy (the typical anti DLS quotes), whatever...but this is my opinion. The point of view from both sides are both born from selfish views.

CAAARN DLS!!!

Here we go again the fun police dude is back. I would rather not vote on whether we should or should'nt, maybe more like should it only go till the end of Feb instead of March. Why can't we end it on the same day as all the other countries, which just so happens to be today.

Down side is I have to wait an extra hour to go night kiting which I don't like.

when the faded curtain, sour milk and morning swim brigade have their way on DLS by voting it out their next move will be to abolish winter (well some might think this is not such a bad thing) Sheesh when i lived in the US the sun came up at 8.30 am and set at 4.30 pm in winter .

Sandy,

you don't like kiting @ night time (apparently it's dangerous)...

it appears that you don't want to go kiting in the early evening anymore...

it seems that you don't want WA kiters to have much time after work during the WA season...(most of us do, actually want as much time as is possible on the water mate - not every one can swim or kite in the morning...)

My question for you is this:

why do you kite in the first place???

Sandgropper,

Wasn't it you who stated that you were going to approach the council to ask for tighter restrictions
Now you are asking for people to vote NO
You're awesome, just glad i don't know you because i don't think we could ever agree on anything

In the paper on the weekend there was an article about fighting the obesity "epidemic".

I would love to know how many people take an advantage of that extra afternoon hour in DLS to do some exercise (even just a simple walk along the beach with the dog), versus the number of people who drag themselves out of bed in the morning to go for a swim or run or whatever.

I'll bet my bottom $ that more people exercise in the afternoons - and therefore as a state WA would get healthier if DLS was voted in.

And Sandgroper, please post facts - With DLS, sunrise occurs after 7:00am from Feb 23 to Aug 7. From Aug 8 to Feb 22 (a whole 198 days or 54% of the year) you can have a pre-7:00am sunrise. And that is worst case - it starts getting light before the sun actually rises. So lose the emotion, lose the caps lock, and sell your kite. You're obviously not that keen on the sport.

I rather think that I'm not a slave and I can do other things beside working too.

When its dark after work I can only go back home and let the TV brainwash me.
When I have the daylight I jump on my board and trying new tricks.

hmmm

WA has to move with the times. It's dark for one month get over it. We are isolated enough we need to coincide with the rest of the states to make the business day easier. I know QLD doesn't have it but it's 1 hr for us it's 3.
The excusess are all only personal and if this state is ever to be taken seriously then move forward and become a modern urban busselling city instead of a big country town with backward view on things.

DLS is "the S*&t". I can get home from work at 6pm and get a few hours on the water...epic, if theres no wind, i can have a few lagers at the pub with a summer atmosphere while the sun goes down.
How many people are out and about along the beach at 7.30 in the evenings as opposed to those in the morning. Correct me if i'm wrong but i reckon thered be about 1000 people that swim every morning, how many kiters alone are there in perth?

Most of the people that go swimming in the morning are oldies/retirees....(most/some/a fair few) anyway, they go to bed at 7pm and are up at 5 wondering what to do, heres an idea, sleep in...or take up kiting if the hips up to it!

Pfft, its dark in Melbourne at 7am at the moment because of daylight savings but nobody is complaining! Its only the first and last 3 weeks of DLS that you really notice it. And the sun is still up at 745 which is when the breeze is anyway.

You guys in WA are weird.

You're damn right SammyJ. Because it's gone through March, I think we might be fighting an uphill battle.

Sandgroper you're either mad and haven't thought it through or your taking the piss. Daylight savings is a very very GOOD thing; especially for kiters.

Yeah I am serious - despite my parody of an anti-WST post.

Its BS to say we need more afternoon daylight. We dont. But if you do, then its a no brainer - just start work earlier. Why do you need wake up the rest of the country just to get yourself up an hour earlier each weekday ? There is already enough extra daylight for a good 2 hour session after work, and few ppl put in more than that on a weekday. Recent research has also found subtle negative heath effects due to DS because of body clock misalignments similar to long term shift workers.

I'm sorry boys & girls but I'm a late starter. I wake up with the sun in winter and grudgingly start work at 9:30. I like my late starts in summer tho because I have enough early morning time to have a swim after a hot night, and I go to work totally energised. I haven't done this for 3 years now because of this "trial" trying to condition us into accepting DLS against our wills.

Fortunately, some of us have formed a underground resistance and have not succumbed to the alien invaders from the East. We, the silent majority, have kept our minds, and will mount our voting counter-offensive on polling day by overwhelming the enemy and voting: "FOR THE FOURTH TIME BIG BROTHER, WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE WORD "NO" YOU DONT UNDERSTAND?"

y would u wake up an hour earlier if work doesn't start for another 2 hours????!! it would make sense to do important things (kiting) in the arvo.
