Hi all seabreeze Einsteins, have a naish park which comes with bar and lines that flag to one line and has V front lines.Question is ,can I use another brand which flags to one line and has equal line length as naish,BUT has a Y split instead of V approx 3 meters up.In other words does the Y split affect flying.Can not find any information on this at all.![]()
You should be ok mate, as long as the lines are of equal length, as per the Cabrinha utube video.
I did exactly this with a Cabrinha Switchblade where the Y point is way up closer to the kite, and it worked fine. However make sure that the distance from the tips of the kite to the Y point are not too short that the Y point is going to "squash" in the tips of your kite inwards toward the centre - if you know what I mean. Otherwise all good. Just be aware self landing in that configuration is fraught with issues. But just pull the QR and you should be sweet as!
You can do a lot with kites and experiment with bridles, lines, different setups, 5th lines, etc and some amazing performances can be gained. DOn't be afraid to experiment as long as you're comfy flying the kite in light winds to test your results. Progress to stronger winds and test again. Worst comes to the worst, just QR the darn thing and let it fly downwind (obviously make sure there is enough room!).
Yes lines will be of equal length , the Y on the bar I want to use is not as far up as the cabs 2012.Trying to figure out what you mean by squashing the tips in.Is this because the Y will curve the kite more?
Think of it this way, most every kite will fly with 27, 24, 21m 17m lines
if you have 24m lines with 4m before a V then its like putting 20m lines onto a kite with 4m of lines under that
so long as 20m lines will work, then a Long V will work fine

There must be something to it with the arc radius of the LE and stuff but that said I am a cereal bar changer overer and sometimes, the other bar actually feels better.
There are a whole host of reason's to change bars at times and I have always thought line length was the major factor?
If anyone out there can answer this Q i have it would be gr8.
Do Low V's give more power at same line length? It seems like it to me but I haven't put a lot of time or thought into it as i'm only just now thinking it may be a playing a bigger part of it than I realized? Would love to hear from someone who is in the know here

I use a switch bar (with a low v) instead of the original North bar (with a high v (y) ) on a 9m Fuse. I didn't notice any difference in the flying characteristics of the kite. I did read that supposedly a low v gives a 'more direct feel'... whatever that means

I like the switch bar better than the north one too m8!
