Ok for the last 2 sessions i have been trying for a handle pass but everytime i pop i end up sending the kite and going for a bit of an epic dangle. My hands are in the center of the bar but this doesnt seem to help too much. Im also concerned my kite isnt set up for unhooking so some advice there would also be appreciated.

well theres your problem Ozone are not the best for unhooking shocking feel with the light bar pressure.

put you lines up to a tree and check for stretching this can be a contributing factor for you kite shooting up above your head and the pass turning into more of a dangle, also try watch when you come around for the grab you aren't pulling down on one side of the bar.

dont listen to the above post, try trimming the steering lines trimmers to give a lil more pull in the oppside direction and play with theie settings

start off learning surface passes before you try to pass in the air. and ride downwind a bit so the lines go a bit slack before you pass. that way there is minimal kite movement when you grab one side of the bar.

the hand that u are going to be holding on with until the u pass the bar put one of those fingers on the other side of the bar so that u have a bit of pressure on the other side. its hard to explain but it does slow the turning of the kite down a lot while holding on with 1 hand

I assume you mean let the depower line go between your fingers? Good advice.

yep, have your hand in the center with the chicken loop running thru your fingers.

Cheers fro all the tips guys, Any more info on how to correctly setup my Ozone to make unhooking more comfortable?

BTW- I should also add that due to my problems with unhooking it also lead to my first kiteloop.... thats right... my first kiteloop was a F-16 and a very Huge/ painfull one at that.

I would suggest to start with you concentrate on trying to hone your unhooking technique before worrying about any handlepasses at this stage. It is not uncommon to pull harder on your back hand when loading and popping unhooked but if you concentrate on your technique to overcome this you will be better off.

I disagree totally with Macca (sorry mate) about rigging your lines to compensate for poor technique. This is not the answer.

Finally, Stamp offers good advice. Before you bother with fully loaded handle passes start by trying an ollie to blind, bearing off down wind first so there is very little pull from the kite. Use the front/back of a wave to get your pop rather than loading and passing.

be carefull when u have the chicken loop running through ur fingers as the skin in between your fingers sometimes gets caught in between the rope and the bar and it hurts!

sounds like you are turning your kite when you pop and keep on turning it during the pass.. not necessarily a bad thing as long as you reverse the kites turn during your handlepass which you will need your hand in the middle to do...

Or ensure the kite is not moving up before you pop - will be harder to get height.

Figure out if you are trying to do dangle passes, or powered passes. Sounds like your trying a dangle pass. Try slow down a bit and go for a smaller jump, you dont need 5m of air to try your first pass.

Maybe try some easier unhooked tricks to begin with to get some kite control sorted first.

And sorry to say but the instincts are not the best kites to unhook with. You can do it but getting the trim right, the huge pull and small unhook range make things more difficult when other kites just unhook and go.

Was actually going for more of a wake style powered pass so i was trying to keep my kite about 2m off the water. Now all i need is some wind to go try this all again.

imo opinion 2m off the water is a bit low to start off with try it with the kite at about 45 degrees. U WILL STILL HAVE HEAPS OF POWER.
