Okay here is a big ask! Where within a single flight from Sydney is the best place to take the missus and littlun' for a warm water kite holiday. My girlfriend is keen to have a few beginner lessons and I'm keen to hit some strong winds. Would love to have flat water and wave options and need the hotel to be nice enough for my keen to learn but essentially non kiting partner to have a good time too. Quality childcare would be a super added bonus too

Fiji or New Caledonia would seem good options but if anyone can recommend specific hotels then that would be great or has anyone taken family to one of the specific kite tour companies which they've found good for everyone?

I put up a post recently enquiring about the Australian Kitesurfari , that goes to a remote beach north of Cooktown. From what I read its a kite surfing paradise , not much surf though because of the barrier reef , but the wind is always blowing up there . Hotel wise though its very remote but I hear your well looked after, basic accommodations though . But truly a beautiful part of the world, the beaches go on for ever up there .Just a quick flight to Cairns and a few hours by car ,(they pick you up from your hotel )and its 4 to 8 days of pure paradise . that will be my next holiday, and I live up here in far north Queensland. My thread is titled Cooktown kitesurfari . Good winds!

Nitrious - Look up Zephyr kite tours… Friends went with them to Cocos and had a terrific time. He also said he should of brought his family.

They also do New Cal and certain parts of Fiji as well. They do lessons and are extremly professional.

Australian Kitesurfari would be a pure riding holiday IMO not much for the kids and missus to do.

Its very hard to balance out the family versus kite thing. I take mine on holidays and take the kite with me. when it blows I look up seabreeze and see the locals and respect their opinions and give them some beers after the sesh.

Beers = returned smiles and stoke

I loved the kite surfari but your missus will kill you if you take her there and she doesnt kite.

Taking your missus and your girlfriend to the same spot may not be wise.

LOL... I haven't even brought up the mistress yet either. Heh chicks dig kiters don't they

Somantics aside, i'm not sure she's going to love Cooktown with a 3 month old baby in tow myself.

What about Noosa? / Sunshine coast though. Is peak season (i.e the windiest same as NSW). Fiji does look like a good bet too although not as easy to get lessons for the bird as New Cal. Mind you i'm not sure i'd be all that keen on Tom Bloody Herbert taking the Ball n Chain out for a session either......

Fair call with baby in tow ! There's always port Douglas ,plenty of flat water kiting there , lots of good hotels , but if you want surf you'd need to charter a reef boat . Come to think of it you'd probably get better value for your dollar over seas , cause they charge like a wounded bull for everything up there , sad to say ! All the best ! Good luck with your search !

If staying in Australia is an option and your after warm water and waves then you should consider WA. Not sure what time of year your looking at but from September onwards we have consistent strong winds up here in Exmouth with world class flat water and waves. There is also heaps of other stuff to do and see.

I second this.. but perhaps some advice.

A 3-month old baby on a holiday where you want some "me-time"??? Don't waste your cash. I know it feels like both of you need a break, take one closer to home without a thought of kiting.

Then, when the GF has her support network around her (mom, sisters, friends, etc.) you slip off as much as possible to your local for a session. She can learn to kite later, right now she's got her hands full with a certain bundle of joy.

earlier this year my wife, 4 month old and I went to Hawaii. warm water, waves and took 9 hours from bris. I recommend if your doing a long flight, have the flight time when the bub sleeps most. we have a over night flight over and she slept the entire way, on the way back was a day flight and it was I nightmare for us and every1 else, except the old bloke in front who just took his hearing aid out lol.
