Hi all
For all you former windsurfers, anyone got a tyronsea mast base/uni joint kicking around in their shed they no longer want.
I picked up an old school Tyronsea 330. Thinking of teaching the kids this summer. I've asked on the windsurfing forums but no luck. Would be nice to get one that fits rather than dodging something up.
Keep an eye on ebay for a bargain. I used to have a tyronsea and also a caveman shortboard which I used the same mast base for, so it's a bit of a universal system.
I found this online in Australia if it helps ![]()

bloody hell haha. I definitely have a few lurking around in the shed somewhere, but the thing is that by now they will be so old that you will set it up and once they bend they will just break instantly...
A few years too late, I think the electrolisis from the stainless spring clip did it in .
Ha Tyronsea... a blast from bygone years....
If you can't souce the real piece ith a bit of ingenuity you should be able to get something going from a few old bits and pieces , (if you are able to channel McGyver....)
I actually only really need the end nipple bit that goes into the mast base. The actual uni joint bit I can steal from another rig. Mind you the other rig is probably just as old as yours but mine still get used regularly, like maybe once or twice a year haha.
If you wouldn't mind having a dig around sometime that would be great.
Edit, I've been told Hydrodynamix sell parts. So if none can be found I'll go there, though I'm pretty sure, like me, people still have windsurfing gear from literally last century clogging up their shed.
I have a big tub of assorted windsurfing stuff in the shed, if you can find a picture of whatnyou need I will dive in and have a look see.
Back in the day, I had a 330 also a 190something???
Just out of interest are Tyronsea still around, if not what happened to them.![]()
Sweet, I need something like this (note the top mast extension bit isn't important as I'll need to change it to fit my existing gear anyway, really just need the nipple and the uni joint if at all possible):

In my very brief googling for this part, seems like they are no longer around. There are however third party suppliers that make miscellaneous parts for tyronsea gear..
While we are getting all nostalgic, I also picked up a Windtech Pro Lite 940. We already have a "normal" Windtech in the shed somewhere but this one is seriously light and locks bludy quick. I'll give that a go this summer too. It will be interesting to see if it's much quicker/slower than the kite. Old skool vs the 21st century. Should be fun.

Is that some kind of sex toy you use after a joint??
Those pics bring back fond memories - I learnt on a Tyronsea 360 (retractable centerboard) with a Gaastra 4 or 5 m sail - a proper triangle, no battens anywhere in sight. Would that have been late 80's ?? I have to ask - why on earn would you subject your kids to learning on that ? These days the formula style boards make the whole process so much easier - up and riding from the first session.
With the benefit of hindsight, who agrees kiting is so much easier ?
Kids too young to kite, or at least to young to fully understand the risks and deal with any kitemares, and I already have all the windsurfing gear, except that uni joint, so it doesnt cost me anything.
Similar to you, i learnt in the 80's, self taught. I figure if I can do it, they should be fine with my learned experience.
And yes, kitesurfing is infinately easier to learn.
There's a tyronsea 330 with a broken u-joint plugged into the mast track - with the brass bit, in the sacred heart op-shop on chapel st, windsor. Didn't see a price on the board.
I had a 330 in 1987 and it was just ok, plenty of better boards should be gathering dust and obtainable for next to nothing across Australia.
just get a differnt base. chinook is the goods. However I think I may have one of both. will have a look
Surf fx on the Gold Coast have all those parts in stock new. 55313199
These parts are still available. A good Windsurfing store will have them in stock!
