Well? do you role or fold your kites up!
I'm a folder. I see a lot of guys rolling tight bundles and I think why?
I fold in half wing tip to wing tip, then slat starting from wing tips. cuts the time and effort when you're knackered after a big session, still lets residual air out as you fold.
There's no real difference in the end result. If you roll then pat it flat you end up with a fold.
I fold the dacron tips to get a neat starting point for the leading edge and a firm section to roll around, roll that along the leading edge, then pat flat at the middle.

I have taken this a portion guy's advice and convinced myself this method preserves the bladder and material better. I do a slack version of it. It kind of becomes more folded than rolled but quite loose and is very quick. I switch between what he calls the 'taco' method and the two roll method.
By mixing it up I reckon you don't have folds in the same spot every time preventing excessive wear at the folds.
The fold in half and roll is my preference. Stops a bit of pissin about and if your bag is big enough, once inside - puff it up like a bed pillow to reduce pressure on it also...
There's a guy here who just grabs it all in a big pile and carries the kite across the road to the clubhouse and dumps it in a corner of the store room. All three of his Switchblades are just a big pile on the floor ![]()
I do like the video says... but I came up with that on my own ![]()
Just be careful pushing the kite down to get the air out - I've poked holes in the canopy when the zip tab was sticking up...
Advice I was given that applies to both buggy and surfing kites, is to get a larger bag so you don't have to fold the kite any smaller than necessary to pack up. Better for the fabric not to be folded too tightly or repeatedly along the same line.

YEAH - another devotee of total sense.
(and hes not even from our school!!)
This really is a no-brainer.
- keeps sand on the outside of the canopy rather than the inside where it can grind away at strut lines etc
- saves that hassle of the 1st roll unrolling as you deflate & roll the 2nd side
- but besides those minor things it is twice as quick.
Hold the wing tips > flick in the wind clears excess water & sand & lays the two halves downwind ready for a neat quick roll.
Beats me how the wing tip to centre ever came to be ?????
Watch the vid - its obvious.
Tip-to-tip doesn't really work with delta or bow kites, especially when the wind is up... non-square tips and long curved profiles to the center tend to flap in the breeze and make a mess.
I usually kick sand onto the kite as I'm rolling it up anyway
Loose folds don't unroll as you do the other side, unlike a proper roll...
Then there was that guy who could fold and pack a kite in under 10 seconds... can't find the video now of course.

Oh here you go then ![]()
The Vimeo version is clearer than YouTube.
Years ago now but still worth watching.. ![]()
