Did a downwinder in 12 knots on my 14.5 yesterday and noticed heaps of non locals trying the same on 12's and even 9's. The result was lots of kites in the water, kiters drifting through flagged areas and general mayhem.
After consulting with local kiters and lifeguards we have been requested to post the following reminder:
PLEASE DO NOT KITE THROUGH THE FLAGGED SWIMMING RESERVES!!!
Please ask an experienced local for advice.
Please check your gear and know your limitations.
Do not launch upwind of the flags or attempt to kite in light winds on crowded beaches. Your 12m kite will not get you kiting in 10 knot breezes with a 5 knot sweep!
The patience of local lifeguards is wearing thin. If all else fails and they complain again we will have to unleash Grumpy Sam and there will be blood!
Go to WA. The wind is so much better there. The Sunny Coast is way overrated and not worth the visit.
