After using my new bar and lines (idsx) on an older switchblade (6m 07/08 a sweet kite BTW)- I have discovered the bar works fine self launching and flying the kite.

BUT,

I have not had any success yet undertaking a self landing

Does anyone have any tips on using this new bar and line setup particularly or self landing ? Before my kite-mare occurs !

PS I do not have the old bar & lines as I purchased as kite only but reconsidering the purchase if no resolve here/I don't really want to attempt another self land in 30kn !

Does anyone have an old bar and line they want to sell ?

The IDS bar won't make an 07 land like an 09. They are different designs. The only way you can land your 07 safely is either by clipping your safety to a sandbag or something fixed, like a pole, toebar, or digging your twin tip into the hard low tide sand and clipping your safety to the handle on board. Or another way is to pull in on the front lines until it hopefully lands. This way never works for me and you increase the chance of wrapping your lines around the bar then the kite taking off. Flying a 6m you'll be landing it in at least 20kts so best thing with this kite is getting someone to catch it. The landing system on the 06, 07 cabs was flawed but in 09 that problem was rectified in 09 with the IDS

The 07 Crossbow had a front line flagging system, it worked fine.

@Monkeyfish
What happens when you use the IDS, does it depower and turn upside down and hover?
Or does it get out of control and spin?
Maybe an IDSX pro kit and modify it so that you can flag to one front line??

Whilst we are on the topic of IDS, i have a 09 switchblade, and for the first time the other day the kite rolled in on it's self after a crash and the rear lines were then going inside the front lines. the kite flew fine but i didn't know wether or not the ids safety would work with the lines inside out like that. Does anyone know if the IDS will work just incase it happens to me again?
thanks in dvance

Yep - IDS should be fine if you flip the kite through itself...

Hi Steve

basically, the kite continues to fly on the 2 front lines, and erratically, 3, 12 then 9 o'clock ie the full arch, no control and with quite a lot of power contained in the kite (full depower setting too). Difficult to hold with power on the single inside line (idsx) and feels like its going to launch again. No spinning involved but it's so erratic and hard too control, it could very well do that (death spiral), and if so you would have to completely detach kite.

I will go back to old bar with flagging - this was great with the convert
