Folks,
I have a 2008 16m North Rhino.
Would like some tips on water relaunching in light wind conditions please.
Cheers
Dave
... hey Dave, I used to own and love the old 2008 Rhino. Although its sorta delta-ish design kite it doesn't have the 'autolaunch' as they say like proper delta designed kites, and you have to almost have to treat it like a high aspect kite when in really light winds.
Assuming the kite has it the water, I found the best way (that suited me) was firstly, pull the depower to max to let the kite drift downwind of you assuming of course its on its leading edge.
When directly downwind let the bar go and pull the red 5th line in, grabbing it from below the chicken loop, pull in slowly and swim forward towards the kite the same amount your pulling in. Don't try to drag the kite towards you but go towards it. The kite will start to roll over.
As your pulling in you will feel the pressure come off. This is the point that you stop pulling in, immediately. You don't want to let the kite roll onto its back. Pain in the arse, so make sure you stop pulling in the red line and just hold it there.
Reach for the bar and make sure you grab the correct side and start to steer it to the edge. Don't pull the bar in, make sure its all the way out and against the stopper ball, keeping steady pressure on the steering line.
As the kite gets towards the edge of the window, slowly feed the red 5th line out making absolutely sure you don't have any tangles or your fingers wrapped ect ect around the line, all the meanwhile still keeping even pressure on the bar.
When the kite has reached the edge, being a heavish kite you need to use finese with the steering, not too much or it will back down onto the trailing edge. Some times its so light you can tickle in the 5th line just as it lifts off by pulling in again just a bit. Pulling the 5th gets the angle of attack better and allows it to break free from the water.
Clear as mud??? I reckon practice in the shallows then simulate deep water while in shallows so when it comes time you don't get caught out and its all automatic for you.
cheers for now,

Nice explanation Robbie and is really the way to relaunch any 5th line kite with finesse.(light winds)
Deep water relaunch of a 16m Dyno in light winds using the 5th.

Thanks to all so far... Picture says 1000 words.
Buy a wipika matrix 16.5 makes a rhino launch a piece of piss
Cheaper to learn to launch a Rhino I'm sure, but thanks for this input, might help someday.
