Whilst reading the Correct Launching Technique thread I noticed people plugging their sand anchors. One of those was from NZ. As I?m sure everyone is aware from watching the news of late, manufacturing in Australia is disappearing with massive job losses. I work in manufacturing and am seriously greatly concerned and worried about my future and how I will make a living. I have been looking for an anchor and will definitely be purchasing the Australian made sand anchor www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/carrum-downs/surfing/kitesurfing-launching-and-landing-sand-anchor/1039911962 No offence NZ. I am just using this as an example and I am sure that NZ is in the same boat as us. We should all do our best to support Australian businesses within reason. I know times are tough but if you have the ability to support Australian business, we should.

Might be a good time for Moto Levy to advertise here as well, since you'll be looking for kite repairs once your kite loops its self down the beach!

Might be a good idea for KBA to do some insurance advertising too!

Also don't forget your go pro!

I used to be scared to self beach launch. So I bought similar anchors. I found that it: only works on soft deep sand, scared that someone could trip in it, could be a flying weapon if ever came out while attach to kite.
I think that practicing self launch with a small kite on a less windy of a day you will master the self launch skill without a anchor.
Just my two cents.

These have been around for years and are made in Perth. They work extremely well and can be bought for around $70.

Why don't you just self launch the same way you would relaunch?!! Or do you take a sand anchor with you when your kiting? What happens if you drop it in the water?

I thought that was the New Zealand one. Didn't he say it's advertised in gumtree in Australia as well as New Zealand? Looks the same but I could be wrong.

The new kites were designed in Gero.

The profits would have stayed in Gero (Is there profits in kiting, I don't know).

No kites are made in this country, unless you want to pay 25 dollars an hour compared to 2 dollars for manufacturing.

I must admit Im totally miffed with all this sand anchor requirements??

I agree what do you do in the water? What do you do iff you launch and then do a down winder?? What do you do if you bow tie your kite in the water and your 100m from your anchor when you reach shore???

When you launch do you just leave it sticking out of the sand?? Of do you then pull it out and place it somewhere?? It seems like it complicates a relatively simple and easy operation.

Why not next time you go kiting with a buddy practice self launching and landing for 3 or 4 goes.

If you can do thins in 400mm of waterin a flat lake, Get that sorted then do it on the beach, Im a beginner and it really isnt difficult or dangerous. Have you escape plan ie run through flagging the kite and then do it.

I could not pay 100 for that sometimes you have to rely on your self when kiting

Hi Everyone,
That is my Sand Anchor on gumtree. It is the result of me making one for a kiting mate in Scotland. Sand anchors are quite popular over there. I was not originally sold on the use of these but since making and using one, I love its ease and convenience. This is my take on what is already out there and I have tested it in a variety of condition from light to heavy. I too had the same concerns jplmain stated above, but with correct care and setup procedure, sand anchors can be super strong and reliable. Also I leave small marker next to it so that I know where it is and so that walkers do not trip over it. There are many sand anchors on the market and everyone should do their research. Self -launching and Landing are important kiting skills that everyone should learn and know and sand anchors should not replace these important skills. It is just another alternative with its own positives and negatives that as a consumer, you get to weigh up. For me now, the benefit is the reduced wear and tear on my kites and its ease of use. I am a big fan of the seabreeze community and view it many times a day, and appreciate reading everybody?s views, responses and constructive criticisms. When there is no wind, seabreeze is the best way to keep my mind kiting and get me through those windless days Thanks everyone
