More ****ery, courtesy of “World Sailing”. Are these buffoons intentionally trying to ruin our sport??The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) has been informed by the CEO of World Sailing (WS, formerly ISAF), that WS has requested IFKO (“International Federation of Kitesports Organisations”) to immediately remove and furthermore cease to publish or promote any information which makes a claim in terms of its relationship with the IOC and its plans for the sport of Kiteboarding.World Sailing has ascertained that IFKO is not currently a member of SportAccord and therefore has no formal recognition. A prerequisite of membership of this body is that the applicants sport is different from any sport that is governed by a current SportAccord member. World Sailing is a current SportAccord member, it is therefore unlikely that IFKO will be granted membership and World Sailing is currently waiting for confirmation of this by SportAccord.World Sailing has also instructed IFKO that World Sailing’s approval is required for any event that is described as a ‘World Championship’ or ‘World Cup’ or indeed uses the word “World” in the title of the event and this approval extends to all Kiteboarding events using World Sailing rules and regulations.Such events that are run in contravention of World Sailing rules and regulations will be listed as prohibited events that can seriously affect the eligibility of riders to compete in other World Sailing events requiring World Sailing Eligibility, namely World and Continental Championships of all IKA classes (including the IKA Kiteboarding World Championships in Freestyle, Big Air and Wave, the IKA KiteFoil GoldCup and the IKA Racing World Championships), the Sailing World Cup, the Youth Olympic Games, and the Olympic Games. We regret that IFKO does not comply with world wide recognized principles for the recognition of International Federations. It is IKA’s responsibility to make all riders aware of the risk they will take when participating in IFKO events, namely not being able to compete in IKA sanctioned events of all disciplines, and World Sailings events. The same extends to event officials, be it race directors, jury and judges.

Hmmm

They allow separate governing bodies in many similar types of sports.

But…..

….kite racing uses the WS racing rules rule book. Surely they are committed to coming in under that umbrella.

But….

WS is such a basket case, holding the sport back in so many ways (Olympic classes anyone?). The UN has more direction than those monkeys. It would be a huge burden to the sport to have to adhere to the fees and bull**** sailors have to put up with.

Windsurfing tried to have realistic classes 20yrs ago, a proper fast planing racing class........ spent a LOT of money on developing it
But it was the Olympic mob who wanted to be able to run it in near zero wind so THEY buggered it and forced us to stick with old tech.
So no, WS is not holding things back. If they went with Formula like we wanted there would be full planing racing spectacle from about 8kn upwards but they want to be able to run the racing (incl yachts) on any water close to the Olympic city anywhere in the world on every day of the year be it 1kn or 30kn.

Fees and rules are not a burden. Go try and enter Olympic without winning a national qualifier and thus having the support of the national body which means being a member and so on. Just cos you have the latest kewl sport does not mean it will be like the Dodgeball movie crossed with a Crusty Demons video.

But Jmac - you posted this in kiting and windsurfing asking "are they trying to ruin out sport?"
You may have to clarify if you think they are trying to ruin windsurfing or kiting..

Having wind and kitesurfing at the olympic games makes about as much sense as demonstrating roller hockey in 1992. It's the wrong arena for it but the good news that the vast majority of kiters care not for all of these associations and will continue to enjoy and grow the sport they love.

Can you even imagine a kite race for a non kiting spectator? The novelty of the bright patterns in the sky wears off after 5 or 10minutes so they certainly wouldn't even be close to interested in watching kiters racing around a marker 500m+ away. They just want to see jumps and crashes.

I notice jaymac has not been back.

He is too busy developing a kite racing class that works in zero wind (sine the hell out of it i guess?????) up to 30kn
