+1 LouD.
I'm sure he was enjoying himself and that is the main thing.
+1 for that
The photo was posted to demonstrate the size of the kite launching spot, which is crazy small and surrounded by a treated pine log fence which is a completely stupid thing to have there. There is no way I'd launch there, tons of room just down the beach. The council have created a serious safety hazard by installing the log fence, and they could be liable for injuries it causes!
My fellow older kiter (I'm 57) could do with some advice and definitely lose the neck brace as it would severely restrict his movement, let alone be uncomfortable and potentially add more danger and risk of injury that he may think it could prevent.
Couldn't give a damn about the knee brace, wear one myself.
The reel leash is another mega NoNo, and he did not wear a helmet only that grey bucket hat. If you know this guy and you are serious about caring for him, and helping him, have a chat with him and at least get him to lose the leash, the board would always blow back to the beach up there anyway. Get him to put a wheelbarrow tube under the handle, inflate it and this will make his board clearly visible and blow downwind quickly.
And he could definitely use some time learning to fly a kite properly or more confidently, and only ever gripping the bar with hands from the top, never the "boom" grip!
No It wasn't. If you posted the pic to show the launch area then why isn't the whole launch area shown. That's how a viewer would get a idea of the size of the square. I sense some back pedaling in progress.
BTW never had a drama there with either the launch or the locals.
Haha! Yeah of course, you must be able to read minds, I should have known that. Read the thread. I'd literally visited days before and had snapped the pic, because as I said I'd never seen anyone kite with that level of "protection", but incidentally I had a shot of the said launch area, and I posted the pic for that reason. I have some other shots of the launch area too, but I guess you know they all contain my fellow older kiter!
If I wanted to make fun of the kiter I would have said so and would have started a thread on its own. The pic was otherwise for my own collection. Most of the pics I take are never seen by others, other than some products and teamriders on my website or on FB page to share with other photographers.
While I was there I landed 3 kiters, the landing and launching zone is positioned in a hell gusty spot (wind had a fair bit of S that day though) and it was impossible to tell if the kite being landed would come down into my arms or 4-5M upwind/downwind.
When locals were launching they took the kite downwind towards the beach where the air was a bit cleaner, but everyone I watched looked like they were about to detonate a bomb they were standing a bit close to, solid 35-40+ knots, 4 and 5M kites!!
Clearly the launch area could be better positioned and there is no way it needs a bone breaking pine fence around it.
If as you say our fellow older kiter should be allowed to do what he wants then how about just leaving him out of this discussion and stick to the thread topic?

How about you just admit that you havnt got clew what you are talking about, since you never launched at this spot, what a load of BS, wheres your credibility dude
