So I had the day off and have a piece of 32mm exterior ply sitting out the back and it had bowed. Done a few tandem runs with the kids piggybacking me. Its hard work.

So Ive shaped a 148 X 48 using a cabrinha custom for an outline. So far with a crap ozito planer, $6 n a roll of sandpaper and $18 on spraypaint I've got what resembles a kiteboard. Tandem pig.

Ive had lots of experience with polyester resins. Should I just stick with what I know or go epoxy resins? Im not going to vacuum bag a piece of plywood.

Epoxy is no different to work with, if anything it can be easier as it wont gel as quickly.

You can probably do a cheap epoxy job for ~$30, so you still have a board for ~$50 which is pretty cheap.

If you want flex epoxy is much less brittle. It's easier to work with and probably better for your health

I only use epoxy cuz if I use poly the foam on the inside of the board melts and I end up with a cave - if not working with a foam core then poly is a heap cheaper - and hey its a piece of ply you are playing with !!

use some sun cure polyester..and then you can blame the crap finish on the glass going off too quickly!

Thanks to all with advice. Went epoxy 6 OZ glass. Used the leftovers on top for some extra rigidity It is 148X49. 3.8mm Concave throught the middle, about 4cm of rocker. Hacked the hell out of the top to reduce weight and give it flex. All materials, it cost me $120 as the ply was free. 5-6kg in weight.

Wet sanded the top and took it out today finless and waxed. 12-14 knots. Started on a 10m and could easily stay upwind but a struggle to get it going. Lent it to a couple of guys with 11m and a 12m(cant ride with boots in that wind). 3rd run in, surface shove-its were done. Talented little pricks .

THe wind died as I got up my 15m, 10-13knots. I had ball in butter smooth conditions. I'll definately get some fins for it being so wide to help it track. It goes to show with my crap shaping skills and crappy equipment, you can basically kite on anything......

Im gonna make an alaia/vector/directional/batwing/heavily channeled ply thing with my remaining bent bit.

Have heaps of resin/hardner left over. It has a use by date. If anyone else south of perth wants some for a board build PM me, Id rather see it used than go off.

Any guys with young kids around woodies that want to go tandem. PM me. Ive put reinforcements arond were pads and straps go. It wont need to be ridden strapless.
