ive worked it all out, travelling, looking to save a gram here and there, gotya your a drug mule arnt you![]()
saw someone out riding it today at St Kilda. To its credit, the person was the only one riding, on a twin tip, in about a true 10-12 knots, which is pretty impressive, not some dude standing on the beach with a hand held wind reader, under a tree, saying its 5-6 knots, the graphs were all reading this and they are 15m up. not sure what size it was, but looked about 17m and the rider was average size.
apart from the light wind performance the kite didn't look great, fluttered a ridiculous amount, and thats in 10-12 knots. Dont know how it would manage even in 15 knots with the flutter. Even with the bar sheeted in fully, it had flutter, and as soon as any sheet was let out, the entire canopy would shake and flutter, which will not only make it feel and fly like ****, but also make it wear super fast as its permanently fluttering.
Maybe the kite has some light wind potential, but from the looks of it after seeing it fly, I cant see how you would really get any performance out of it, better off buying a kite with a few struts IMO
No one mentions foil kites! peter Lynn/ flysurfer, kites are famous, would weigh less and are proven tech.
For what it's worth, Dafrog and I are not the same person as someone might have alluded to earlier.
I am not here to get into a slinging match about what wind is worth riding and what is not.
As far as the Griffin kites are concerned, he has them made in the same factory as most of the big brands. I would think there might be only a couple of kites still made in Europe, but aside from that, they are all made in China. What is different about the Griffin is that it is a small company, one guy, who designs and tests all his kites here, he spends his money here in this economy, and he works really hard to put together a great kite. His business skills are always improving, and I find that encouraging. I have made suggestions that he has taken to heart, and that speaks volumes about someone who wants his business to succeed. Not because I suggest it, but because he is willing to listen to a total stranger about what I feel is lacking in a product.
As for my garden Hamburgler?
I have a veggie garden, an orange, lemon, 2 limes, mandarin, ruby red grapefruit, olive, peach and guava trees, amongst the native bottlebrushes, tea trees and lilipilies. All nestled on a block across the street from my local spot. I love my garden, but I love the ocean more.
+1 for all the reasons above, and no I don't know Dafish but he has highlighted his opinion in a constructive way and given me a new lead on a potential LW kite.
But I hate gardening, sorry Dafish! ![]()
