“The 2010 World Tour will be one of the most if not THE most exciting tour we’ve had in the history of the PKRA. We’ve just signed a five-year deal with Anton Richardson and Sebastien Talem of Minotaur Sports Management in Queensland, Australia to organize the Australian tour stop at the end of 2010. This event will serve as the yearly final tour event and will be a grand slam event which will have Freestyle, Racing and Wave events,” said Toscano.
The partnership with Minotaur Sports Management will be a long term commitment to bring the PKRA for five years to Australia. This will expand the PKRA World Tour to the new island continent.
The venue will be the world–famous beach of the Australian Gold Coast. Queensland’s most famous stretch of 70-kilometer beach. This stunning piece of landscape is home to some of Gold Coast’s spectacular sporting events including the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro and the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. These significant contests consistently attract tens of thousands of spectators annually. The addition of the PKRA World Tour as a calendar mainstay of Gold Coast events further revitalizes the region’s foothold as Australia’s event capital as well as PKRA’s reputation as the world’s leading professional association of kiteboarders.
“Gold Coast hosts many major sporting events including the Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro with a combined viewers of more than one million worldwide. We also have the Boost Aerial Surfing and the Gold Coast Airport Marathon with more than 14,500 participants. We are also proud to say that Australia’s number one motor sports event is held on the streets of Surfers Paradise every October now known as the Nitro SuperGP. This event alone attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually. Coincidentally, this year marks Queensland’s 150th founding anniversary that is why we are very, very excited to bring the PKRA to this part of the world as an added highlight to the celebration. Being the leading organization of some of the best kiteboarders in the world, the presence of the PKRA events will further enhance the entertainment experience of local and foreign visitors alike,” explained Richardson.
How consistently windy is it that time of the year?
i never knew the gold coast got wind.
should be sweet hopefully will see more australians on the tour now
well you might see more australians at the gold coast tour stop
haha, but i still dont think many will be on the whole tour.
This is so sick guyes!!!
Unreal, although I would be a bit concerned about the wind at the Goldy, but hey this is huge for kitesurfing in Australia. Nice effort for everyone involved -let's bring the sport to the next level in Australia!!!
How consistent is the wind at that time of year ? ..I would have thought that the organisers should already have this question answered .I would have thought that Geraldton would have been a better spot.
No doubt with all the associated promotion it should be good for local kite trade .mmmm more lemmings and wannabe's .good luck keeping your spots open after the circus has left town and the carnage remains
Ha ha
You folks got everything goin on over there EXCEPT the wind ![]()
& if you got no wind... we'll LowJack it over here lol ![]()
there is probably a reason why the goldy was chosen.
the place rocks, even sir rowdy has moved here! ![]()
lack of wind pfft, this is the new decade of el nino!
For example ..........
Did Lance sit on his backside saying Kitejam would be a great event then stay seated to complain no-one ran it for him ???
I dont think so.
Did Nick say that KiteX would be a great fun day then mooch around on the day saying why didnt waksa do it for me ???
I dont think so.
Did Choicey crack on about course racing then bitch because no-one got it going ??
I dont think so.
WAKSA is there to facilitate, make sure its all offiicially legit so no-one gets into strife and to assist as far as the individual crew members are able and prepared to help as well.
It is not a tap to pour out everything every member wants.
NB all just my personal opinion - not a waksa opinion.
Didn't mean be harsh on WAKSA I just meant to point out that as far as PKRA goes I'm sure WAKSA aren't interested. I commend those who organised these events that we already got going and fully agree if people want something to happen they need to get involved.
I heard from inside sources it has actually changed location now after a serious review of wind statistics. The flat water will be in Saftey Bay/ Melville WA and the waves will be at Magret River WA. Gonna be good for Aussie kiting to have it in these locations with consistent wind.
"Minotaur Sports Management is based in Queensland, Australia and is headed by Anton Richardson as CEO and Sebastien Talem as Major Sports Events Manager. The company promotes extreme sports and is one of the active promoters in the Gold Coast that ensure the ongoing success of the region’s established annual sporting events."
If these guys are the sponsors and are based on the goldy, WTF???
We would like to formaly announce that the PKRA World Tour will be coming to Australia in 2010. The event will be the last event on the Tour and so will crown the World Champion Male and Female Riders each year with red carpet ceremony and end of Tour celebration. The event will be held in December on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
There will be Wild Card Spots available and so watch this space as to how to qualify for your chance to compete against the best of the best !!
