I'm thinking of sometime around in early December 2009. I need to get some stats from the wheather bureau to when is the windest period of the summer and I will aim for that. Obviously there's a lot of planning to go into it and discussion so I think it would take at least this long to get it up and running.
I've already spoken to the beer people for the nights and the big after party and there keen as to be involved.
Thanks for the interest JUDDY.
Cheers

Sounds fun.
The hardest thing with kite events is putting in all the work and then the wind either not showing or not being very good. It is the one thing you can't pre-arrange despite all your best efforts.
I would encourage you when getting approvals and doing the promos to try to line up to dates, e.g. one or two weeks apart so that if the first preferred date is looking bad then you can re-schedule to the next date.
This can pose problems for people travelling from interstate and booking infrastructure etc. but at the end of the day our sport is wind dependent and we have to work with that.

Great idea, I think most kiters would love the chance to be involved, skill level being the restraining factor, I know I for one have a few years of practice before trying an event. As a spectator, I would love to see the gig though.
I think the idea of touring the event is very worthwhile. Each year, (or 2 years?) have the even in a diferent state, allowing more exposure to the public, alternative sponsors and a new challenge for the competitors.
Thanks to everyone for the input but there is still plenty of time for people to add something. But we will certainly have a masters category in the event for us older folk to bust som moves on the water.
keep the suggestions coming in.

Hi sbray
Sorry for the delay in replying. Haven't been near the computer for a few days and I've been a bit distracted after Sunday's big blow at Kurnell.
Regarding a race series. We haven't worked out details just yet but are trying to keep it simple so that people of all skill levels can have a go. Kitepower have volunteered their rescue boat to be on hand and it will be endorsed by NSWKBA with sign on, waivers etc. We are planning a Friday late afternoon race on Botany Bay, possibly from Brighton or Dolls to Towra Point and back. NSWKBA members only and some industry people have offered prizes. There should be more details on the NSWKBA web site as plans unfold. Hope this helps
Graeme
