To the lads , Aussie, Ry, Gleno and the others all is Good, had a slight kite mare at Brighton and the lads stood up, thanks also to the Surf club boyz. The lession of the day, repace those old extension lines, that you know are just a little frayed. Broke a front line fully powered 5m from shore and ending up kissing the sand 30m away. Will be back soon. Johnno

What did you end up doing to your arm and shoulder , the boys said it looked pretty ugly .
Sounds like you came pretty close to doing a lot of damage .

A few drugs and poped the bitch back in, and all is well. ok.... I did scream like a little bitch.... They said it was a weird dislocation, pushed the arm bone into a odd place. The first they had seen like it at the Charlies. Looked like a nasty snap and felt like it. Hi speed impact. I'm still picking sand out of my nose and ears.

P.S - A split second after the line broke and the kite went into a powered kite loop, my game was to drive the kite into the sand, achieved this on the second bounce... a tip for young players

why would you want to dive the kite into the beach, surly you just let go of the bar and it depowers
did this happen today or yesterday? mean feat to survive it if it was today and post in the forums so quick.

no probs johnno. i'm sure you would have done the same. when i spoke with ozzy this morning and said it was only dislocated i was stoked for you. if that had of been a break you may have missed the whole season. i was sure it was broken when the ambo's and everyone rolled you over and saw this mangled up arm i was sure it was in 3 pieces. definately the worst wipeout i've ever seen. hope your back on the water soon.

Sorry to hear of your accident johnno. Hope you hav a speedy recovery.
There was apparently another accident at Cott this arvo. Not sure of the story but apparently someone did a huge boost, stacked it on the landing, broken ankle or so i was told.

Horrible conditions today. Where has summer gone

surely the lesson for young players would be to engage the safety quick release as soon as a line snaps? Bugger diving the kite, your only asking for another loop

be careful on the immediate eject. you never know, it could be the one that would flag the kite.
but also, if it is really bad, dont hesitate. just a thought.

not a chance to even think about pulling safety, way way to fast and extreme, you cant even get close, i reckon from side wise take off to smash was a micro second. Pretty scary thought for us all really. I'm only suggesting kit loop into ground if you are being totaly ****ed up...

lose a front line on a hybrid type kite and they straight into a powered kite loop, especially at 25knots. A really scary concept.

i'm not really here to get into a discussion, just to relay an experience that may help someone if they are about to get really ****ed up. See ya all at the beach smaSHING IT ASAP.

Oddly enough I had the front line go on a crossbow two and nothing happened, but maybe I was lucky. I was mid way through a jump, the line snapped and I dropped like a stone.

Hi Guys, just thought I would give you all a heads up on line wear!! my Crossbow 2, just over 12 months old broke a front line a week back, the wear was caused by the heatshrink that was put on the lines at the ends to protect them!! inspection of the all lines indicates wear in the same spot, the rest of the lines look fine. I noticed that the replacement set of lines ($200????!!!!) have done away with the heat shrink. So be aware of this point of failure on otherwise perfect lines.....

Feel for you Johno I had this happen on my 13 m Ozone edge at Scaborough beach Queensland ...... had a Rear line break just up from the bar, I dropped the kite into the water and managed to get hold of the free line and walk to the beach with the kite pulling me in,almost got the kite over and down on the beach and got a gust. The line was ripped out of my fingers, and off she went, looping like crazy, the force from the kite ripped one of the handle pass safety line connections off one side of my new hadlow harness when I let the bar go, this turned me around so I was facing away from the kite,I couldn,t reach the safety so got dragged up the beach into some rocks. The bar got caught momentarily on the rocks. This held the kite just long enough for me to pic myself up and turn around, just as I reached for the safety the bar slipped off the rocks took out the headlight of a car parked in the car park and took off looping over the car park and dragging me backwards again. Up over the rocks and through the car carpark we went. The kite eventually got caught on a fence on the other side of a clearing throught the carpark, and we all came to a rest, dirty ,sore and bleeding like a stuck pig, I was kiting with the regular crew that day but there was no one on the beach to help land as they were all out on the water, they were curious to know why I was packing my kite so far from the beach though. .....Lesson of the day leave the safety hooked to the number 2 or4 line when landing or launching an ozone edge if something goes wrong it will flag out completely and ....no worries. I had it around the stopper ball under the bar (makes it easier to unspin the lines ). The 5th line on these kites don't operate like the 5th line on most kites. The bridle type connection to the leading edge changes completely the handling characteristics once you let go of the bar compared to say a North Rebel or Rhino. This was nearly 2 months ago and I am still feelin the pain. I wish you a quick recovery (glad to know I am not the only one to suffer this sort of an accident.)

I am sorry to hear about your pain Johnno.

Perhaps the lesson here should not only be about replacing frayed lines but pulling moves "fully powered 5m from shore "???

As an expert kiter I am sure you would drill it into every newbie you meet to leave a margin for error...

Could have been worse than it was by the sounds. Hope you get back soon (so you can share your new-found wisdom).
