Guys

looking for some experiences, pref from the bigger blokes out there (95kgs) on some of the 4 line hybrid type kites on the market.

Coming off the rebels, love them but dont want to deal with a 5th line anymore.

Was wondering if some ppl could shed some light on going with some 2009

- cab switchblades
- naish helix
- ozone sport
- slingshot rpm/rev

Even though im weighing in above average, im looking more for a quiver around 9m/12m as i cbf dealing with light wind kiting.

PS if some stores want to PM on some of their runout gear that would be cool

Out of all the kites I have ridden, the Nomad is the closest kite to the Rebel. Got a 9 and 11, you will need a 13 if your 'big boned' as the bottom end is not as good as the Rebels.

Wait 6-8 months for the last dark page (after the blacked out EVO section) in the kite section of the North Dealers handbook to be filled, cause it doesn't say "Rhino".

No I don't know anything special - just putting 2 and 2 together. North is being hammered by not having a "Rebel" in 4 line mode I figure their working on changing that (there where some spy pics on Kiteforum couple months back). At least that's what I'm working on the 08's are going to have to make it through 1 more season.

Hey CC,

Dead right mate, there is a thread and photos on Kiteforum about the Rhino replacement and also the new Evo. The new replacement for the Rhino is the Fuse. It's a 4 line job with a bridle. Early reviews are good.

Cheers,

KH

Pictures of the North Fuse is at the bottom of the page. Looks like a rebel with a bridal - not a fan of how long the bridals are. New Evo's look nice as well.

I am the same weight as you and like you I switched form North. (14m rebel and a 10m Rhino) I chose ozone and fly the edge model 13m and 11m and can get away with a 9m over 20 knots also. They changed this years model from 5 line to 4, and i think it was a succesful change, some early teething problems overcome by extending the bridle attachment on the smaller kites. Unfortunately I had an accident that has kept me off the water since July and probibly won't be back until Feb at the earliest.
But I did get plenty enough time to fly the 2009 kites before my acident .I love the 13m definetly the best kite I have ever used. Turns quick heaps power, boost, float etc. I didn't think the 11m was as good but the 2009 lights were very good.( in my opinion they were not to much difference the RPM in performancewith possibly a better bottom end)) The one thing you forgot to mention in your post though ,are you mostly wave surfing or playing the flat and or chop. ....btw 95kgs is a normal weight as far as i am concerned, i had to loose 10 kgs to get there.( and it does give you some advantages in the big winds.)

I'm 90kg and switched from a Rebel early this year. I went with the 12m Switchblade IDS; no more 5th line that the Rebel loves to go through when you drop it in the surf and the relaunch is arguably the best in the biz. Light wind performance is also superior and so is handling gusts. The Rebel turns a bit faster, though, not that I really care.

I also have a 9m Crossbow IDS which pulls pretty darn hard. Being a bigger bloke, you may want to have a look at the Crossbow as it is supposed to have a bit more pull on the bottom end than the Switchy. I've also found the Switchy to be better in the surf.

Thanks for the info guys, although the ozones do get a lot of good reviews, im kinda siding with going for a switchy/crossbow set up. There are so many in the buy and sell going for good prices its tempting to bite the bullet and make the purchase.

Would love to wait and see what this 4 line rebel looks like, but i have no kites atm and theres no way im throwing away a summer.

Does anyone ride helixs? There is so little chatter about them anywhere on the net, not to mention how little there are in the buy and sell. I would be keen to find out more about these from any heavier riders out there.
